NiMet predicts 3-day dust haze across Nigeria

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has released a weather outlook predicting the occurrence of dust haze across the country from Wednesday to Friday.

The forecast, disclosed on Tuesday in Abuja, anticipates moderate dust haze on Wednesday, with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the North.

On Thursday, NiMet expects moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km over the North, coupled with localized horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1,000 meters throughout the forecast period.

Similar conditions are anticipated over the Northcentral and Inland of the South, with a hazy atmosphere and few patches of cloud expected in coastal cities.

For Friday, thick dust haze is projected over the northern region, persisting throughout the forecast period. The North Central and Inland of the South are expected to experience moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2km to 5km.

The coastal belt of the country is foreseen to be in a hazy atmosphere with few clouds throughout the forecast period.

NiMet issued a cautionary note, advising the use of face masks due to suspended dust particles.

Individuals with respiratory issues are urged to exercise caution.

Children and the elderly are recommended to wear warm clothing at night, and special attention should be given to skin, eyes, and lips.

Moisturizing skin and lips is recommended as a precautionary measure.
