NLC tasks FG to pay health workers hazard allowance

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on Thursday asked the Federal Government to commence the payment of hazard allowance to health workers.

NLC’s President, Ayuba Wabba made the demand at the 2022 FCT Nurses Week/Scientific Workshop of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) on Thursday in Abuja.

The Labour leader noted that many health workers have fallen victim of diseases due to their closeness to patients.

Wabba hailed nurses and midwives, adding that their reward is not only in heaven but also on earth, NAN reports.

The President expressed confidence that the payment of hazard allowance will boost their moral.

Wabba paid special tribute to those who died as the country battled to curtail the COVID-19 pandemic.

He added that nurses and midwives were “the smile of life” who occupy special places in the heart of Nigerians.

”They also occupy a very special place in the health system of every country. There will be no future in health sector without the nurses.

“You are the soul of the health system, it takes a motherly heart and compassion to be a nurse. This is the kind of heart that must define our health sector,” he said.
