No Place for Human Rights Abuses In Lagos – Citizens Rights Directorate Warns

Lagos State Government has warned that human rights abuses will not be tolerated in the State, adding that the present administration will bring the full weight of the law on any perpetrator.

The Director, Citizens Rights Directorate, Ministry of Justice, Ms. Adetutu Oshinusi, made this known at an event organised by the directorate, which held at Ketu Market Lagos, stating that the government has all it takes to safeguard the rights of its citizens and prosecute human right offenders to the full extent of the law.

Oshinusi said, “The Lagos State Ministry of Justice, through the Directorate, is always available to attend to all forms of abuses, such as child abuse, psychological or emotional abuse, domestic abuse, financial or material abuse among others towards curbing them in the State”.

She revealed that the Directorate for Citizens’ Rights has the statutory functions to ensure the protection and enforcement of the fundamental human rights of Lagos State residents, stressing that the ‘One Stop Child Justice Centre’ initiative of the Directorate handles all child-related matters (in collaboration with other MDAs) in Lagos State, thereby protecting the rights of its citizens.

The Director noted that the government has been and is ready to continue protecting the rights of all residents no matter the circumstances or political implications, noting that the State Government will continue to educate the citizens through periodic sensitisation programmes and campaigns.

Some of the market women and men lauded the Directorate for the sensitisation programme, adding that ignorance makes human rights abuses thrive.
