The Chairman of Ojodu LCDA Hon. David Olusegun Odunmbaku and the Chairperson, Mrs. Abimbola Odunmbaku on Thursday empowered 100 widows through the “Year 2022 Ojodu Widows Food Bank” initiative.
This was done in commemoration of Odunmbaku’s 1st anniversary as the chairman of Ojodu LCDA
The Chairman, who had outlined a series of activities to mark the anniversary, reiterated the commitment of his administration to ensure that the dividends of grassroots governance are felt by all and sundry in the Council.
“Our administration is working around the clock to ensure your welfare and improved standard of living through various projects and initiatives we’ve embarked upon since inception. Therefore, this widows’ empowerment exercise will be held on a quarterly basis,” Odunmbaku said.
While delivering her welcome address, Mrs. Odunmbaku assured the gathering of the efforts at lessening the burden on the widows and less privileged in the community.
She said “you’d recall that while commemorating the administration’s 100 days in office a couple of months ago, cash gifts and other relevant supportive materials were given to senior citizens, persons living with disabilities, market women and men artisans etc., all in a bid to ensure financial independence and self-sustainability of the citizens.
“Please accept the assurance of our commitment to making this exercise a recurrent one, with the ultimate aim of uplifting the lives of the citizens and cushioning the untoward effects of the harsh economy”.
In a bid to further complement the welfare efforts, medical screenings and health talk sessions were observed in conjunction with Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation (BOF).
The teeming widows from all the wards within the LCDA who converged at the Council’s Secretariat were elated and appreciative of the kind gesture.
“This is not the first time this administration has helped us (widows). It is very kind of Mrs. Odunmbaku to have remembered us at this critical time. This progrogram will go a long way in providing relief to us”, said one of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Chioma Onora.
Present at the ceremony were the Vice Chairman, Hon. Bunmi Oluyadi, Leader of the House Hon. Opeyemi Apatira and other legislative members, Supervisory Councilors, Special Advisers, and Management Staff.
