Ogun ADC demands electoral officer’s arrest over alleged malpractice

The African Democratic Congress has requested for the arrest of the electoral officer in charge of Yewa North/Imeko-Afon federal constituency in Ogun State over alleged plot to release fake result of the House of Representatives election.

This was contained in a statement by the State Secretary of the ADC, Niyi Salako, made available to newsmen in Abeokuta by the state Publicity Secretary, Abiola Odutola.

Salako said the APC was in distressed by the valid results released from the polling units across the federal constituency.

The statement “Our sources within the APC and INEC have informed us that the duo refused to announce the House of Representatives election results after they had declared the results of the Presidential and National Assembly election, which was won by the ruling party, because they wanted to alter the figures.

“If INEC fails to declare the results in two hours, we will hold the electoral commission and the APC responsible and they should expect a protest.

“Their ultimate aim is to create confusion in the constituency and indirectly divert attention of our party members and the electorate.”

The ADC further said the plan was argue in a meeting the APC allegedly held with the electoral officer in the area on Sunday evening.

The party said the meeting held after it was found that the candidate of the ADC in the constituency, Hon. Jimoh Aremu Olaifa, popularly known as OJA, won the election with a great margin.

Salako said, “The ruling party should not celebrate yet on the already declared result as we have heard reports of how some hoodlums disrupted the electoral processes in several areas that the APC claimed to have won.

“We also have reports and evidence of how some Allied Peoples’ Movement and the APC leaders engaged in vote trading across the three senatorial districts in the state, a development that contradicts the electoral law of the nation.”

“There are also lapses on the part of INEC as electoral process did not start in Sokori area in Abeokuta, Edu polling unit, Ketu Adie Owo, Ado Ota LGA till 1pm due to absence of electoral materials like ballot papers and stamp pads among others.”
