Ondo Poly Workers Begin Indefinite Strike Over Salary Arrears

Members of staff of the Ondo State-owned Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Ondo State, have commenced an indefinite strike over non-payment of their salary arrears by the Lucky Aiyedatiwa administration.

The workers, under their various unions, staged a peaceful protest on the polytechnic campus.

The angry workers said that apart from being owed for six months, the state government has not implemented the national minimum wage for them.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions such as, ‘We are hungry, pay our six months’ salaries’, ‘Mr Governor pls implement our 2025 budget,’ ‘Acting Rector please clear our 2022, 2023 and 2024 promotion arrears’, among others.

They lament that they’re being owed for six months, and to make it worse, the state government has not implemented the national minimum wage for them.

Union chairman Julius Olugbenga-Aro in his address appealed to Aiyedatiwa to authorise the immediate payment of the workers’ outstanding salaries.

He also demanded the commencement of the payment of the new national minimum wage for the workers.
