One dead as truck crushes motorcycle in Ojodu

A motorcyclist was reported dead along Ogunnusi Road, near the Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) gate in Ojodu, Lagos, as a truck driver crushed a motorcycle.

The crash, according to eye witnesses, involved two vehicles, a red Man Diesel truck with registration number BIR53XA and a black Qlink motorcycle with registration number AGL960QN. Preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking.

Officers from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS2.1 Lagos Command swiftly responded to the incident within 2 minutes of the report at 5:32 PM, arriving at the scene by 5:34 PM. Unfortunately, despite their prompt intervention, one of the crash victims, a male, was found trapped under the truck and was confirmed dead on the scene.

The FRSC officers, after extricating the deceased, securely wrapped the body in a body bag and handed it over to the Nigeria Police Force upon their arrival. A phone found on the deceased was also transferred to the Police for further investigation.

the truck was immediately relocated to restore the flow of traffic, ensuring the road was clear for other users and has been taken with the bike to the FRSC Sector Command in Ojodu.

The Sector Commander of FRSC RS2.1 Lagos Sector Command, Corps Commander Kehinde G. Hamzat expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and reiterated the importance of adhering to traffic rules, particularly avoiding dangerous driving practices like wrongful overtaking, overloading, excessive speed, drink driving among others which can lead to tragic accidents.
