Organised labour alerts workers of nationwide action over NLC President’s arrest

The Organised Labour has issued a strong warning, putting workers on high alert for an immediate nationwide action if the arrested President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is not released by the end of today (Wednesday).

The alarming situation unfolded when Comrade Joe Ajaero, the NLC President, was arrested in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, during a protest by workers in the state.

The protest aimed to address the alleged “serial and habitual abuse and violation” of their rights by the state government.

Heavily armed policemen in Owerri apprehended Ajaero at the NLC State Council Secretariat and subsequently took him to an undisclosed location.

In response to this troubling development, the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) issued a joint statement accusing Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and the Imo State Commissioner of Police of abducting the NLC leader.

In a resolute call to action, the Organised Labour urged workers to remain vigilant and prepare for immediate nationwide mobilization.

They emphasized that workers cannot continue their regular duties while the NLC President remains detained.

The Organised Labour further demanded that President Bola Tinubu intervene and call Governor Uzodimma to order to prevent the state from descending into chaos and becoming a haven for violence and lawlessness.
