PDP’s Ishaku Wins Taraba Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the Incumbent Governor of Taraba state and governorship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Darius Ishaku winner of last March 9 governorship election in the state.

The state returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Shehu Iya of Moddibo Adamawa University of Technology, Yola, made the declaration in the early hours of Tuesday.

According to him, Ishaku polled 520,433 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Sani Danladi, who scored 362,735 votes.

Also a former Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development and governorship candidate of the United Democratic Party, UDP, Aisha Alhassan had 16,289 votes to emerge second runner up.

However, of the sixteen local government areas in the state, governor Ishaku won twelve while Danladi won four. Taraba state since return to democratic governance in 1999 has been won consistently by the PDP.
