Responsibilities
- Assisting Surgeons during surgical procedures in the theatre.
- Developing and implementing nursing care plans for surgical patients.
- Maintaining a hygienic and safe working environment.
- Providing nursing care before, during, and after patients undergo surgery or a non-surgical procedure.
- Administration of drugs via oral, intravenous, intramuscular, dermal, topical, inhalation, and subcutaneous routes and identification of drug reactions and adverse effect
- Collaborating with surgical Teams and other medical professionals on patient medication and post-surgery care
- Fluid, blood, and blood products administration as well as I/O management
- Identifying and reading basic laboratory values.
- Oxygen administration
- Insertion of male and female Foley catheter for the collection of urine samples, proper monitoring of intake and output, and for temporary drainage of urine.
- Providing surgical patients with perioperative care.
- Designs a high-quality nursing care plan for each client and evaluating its efficacy by documenting outcomes
- Proper utilization of surgical checklist
- Circulating patients during surgical procedure
- Providing patients with post-surgery care instructions and answering questions.
- Ensures every member of the surgical team is properly dressed before a surgical procedure
- Proper handling of surgical instruments and equipment according to practicing standards.
- Inventory taking and keeping proper Documentation by updating patient files and medical records.
Requirements
- A minimum of RN / Post Basic Perioperative Nursing from any accredited school of nursing or university.
- 2-5 years post basic training experience as a Periopearative Nurse
- Basic Life Support certificate is a MUST
- ACLS certificate would be an added advantage
- Sufficient clinical knowledge.
