Police arrest four suspected cultists in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended four suspected members of the dreaded Eiye cult group.

Their arrest was made when they were reportedly holding a nocturnal meeting in preparation for an attack to be launched on members of another cult group.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects, Oriyomi Bankole a.k.a Ortom, Odedina Sodiq, Shofola Ayodeji, and Adelawa Ayo were arrested at different locations in Oke-Lantoro and Technical College, Leme in Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi said, “a credible information received by the police that the suspects were meeting in those locations, planning to launch attack after their meeting.

“Upon the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, ordered the CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin led anti-cultists section to storm the place and dislodge the hoodlums.

“In compliance with the CP’s order, the team moved to the scene at about 8:30 pm where the four amongst the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped.

Recovered from them are; cutlass, battle axes, and criminal charms.”

The PPRO said the commissioner of police,  Lanre Bankole, had assured the people of the state that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements masquerading as cultists.

Oyeyemi said, “the commissioner, therefore, appealed to the general public to partner with the police in waging war against the criminals by informing the police whenever strange gathering is noticed in their vicinity.”
