Reps urge FG to work with Russia, Ukraine govt to evacuate Nigerians

The House of Representatives on Tuesday asked the Federal Government to work with both the Ukrainian government and the Russian government to fast-track the evacuation of Nigerians in Ukraine.

The House made this call a week after the government evacuated about 1000 Nigerians from Ukraine following Russian invasion.

The lawmakers also asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs Affairs to give data of Nigerians in Ukraine to Russia.

These resolutions were reached following the adoption of a motion moved by Tolu Shadipe.

Shadipe said there is a need for Nigerians to work with the Russian government to get Nigerians out of Sumy, which is a centre of confrontation between the invading Russian forces and the Ukrainian.

She said the government must adopt all needed diplomatic measures to evacuate Nigerians in Ukraine. Adding that the Indian government also reached out to Vladimir Putin on their nationals.

“Nigerians are facing very horrible conditions with diminishing food supply, electricity outages, lack of water and other basic needs,” he said.
