Resident of Ojodu LCDA reacts to Punch Decision to call Buhari Major General

The resident of Ojodu Local council development area, LCDA, of Lagos State, has joined the other Nigerians to react to the decision of Punch Newspaper to henceforth address President Muhammadu Buhari as Major General.

This came following the report of Punch in a notice titled “Buhari’s lawlessness: Our Stand”,  that it will “henceforth prefix Buhari’s name with his rank as a military dictator in the 80s ‘Major General’ and refer to his administration as a regime until they purge themselves of their insufferable contempt for the rule of law.

Our correspondent, who went out to the street of Berger, Ojodu LCDA gathered the following report from people;

One of the residents, Segun Oderinde said he was not shocked to read the news of the Major General title Punch has decided to use in addressing Buhari, stating that it was an obvious fact.

“The way the President has been handling the rule of law is something worrisome and it is portraying him as a dictator who doesn’t care about democracy.”

“So, if Punch decides to call him Major General, I am not surprised or shocked in any, it is complacency behaviour that brings about the name,” he said.

Kemi Omotori is a businesswoman in Ojodu LCDA, expressed her reaction in pidgin language, saying that this is not the democracy, Buhari is indeed a Major General in Democracy regime.

She said, “This Say baba abi nah wetin them call am that time, I sure say everybody eye don clear now.” He don take style style carry us go back to Military reigme, all him action nah wetin he dey try do, nah for him government, we get Hate speech bill, Social media bill and many nonesene wey him dey do, true true nah Major General Buhari no be President Buhari at cos this no be how democracy wey we no be.”

“Call him Major General or anything, He is working for the good of all,” he said.

Chidinma in her reaction said, “Doing the right thing is my major concern for this country, so Buhari can be called whatever anybody like, but let him do the rigth by respecting the rule of law.”

Azeez said, “Punch has set a good pace for other media houses to follow. When media organisation speak against the hills in the society, it will help bring about the desired change.”
