Nigerian women and others from Liberia, Ghana, Serra Leona and Benin Republic will be trained on conflict resolution strategies so that they can train others to minimize communal clashes in Nigeria and across the African continent.
The initiative on peace and conflict resolution which will gulp about 100 thousand U.S dollars will be sponsored by the Rotary Club International according to the President of Rotary Club, Ikeja in district 9110, Adeniyi Adelaja during a media roundtable to sensitise Lagos journslists on the peace project commencing in May, 2019 in the first phase of the initiative.
Adelaja further stated that the second phase will involve collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Lagos State Safety Corps and other relevant security operatives towards finding lasting peace to incessant clashes among communities in Lagos.
He said Rotary Club of Ikeja was established ion 31st August, 1967 as an humanitarian service organisation in Nigeria as been providing community services to residents of Ikeja based on the principles of the four way test based on truth, fairness, goodwill and better friendships that is beneficial to all
“The Rotary club of Ikeja says since the beginning of the Rotary year in July 2018, it has worked on provision of water and sanitation, literacy, maternal and child health among other humanitarian services”, he stated.
The club is harmonising plans to collaborate with the Nigeria police on reducing communal clashes in Lagos and four countries will benefit from the initiative
During the media roundtable, Nigeria’s foremost industrialist and a member of the Rotary club of Ikeja, Chief Ade Ojo was decorated as Sergeant at Arm to rise funds on community service.
Rotary Club currently exist in two hundred countries and has its headquarters at Chicago as a non partisan, non religious humanitarian organization
