Sallah: FG suspends work on Lagos-Ibadan express to reduce gridlock

The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has made an announcement regarding the suspension of ongoing construction work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The decision was taken to alleviate potential traffic congestion during the Sallah celebration for Eid-el-Kabir.

Engr. (Mrs) Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, issued a statement on Monday to convey this information.

The statement acknowledged the recent heavy traffic on the Lagos Shagamu route, unfavorable weather conditions, and the upcoming Eid Kabir festivities. Additionally, it referenced the guidance of the traffic management team assigned to address traffic-related issues on the project.

In light of these factors, the statement revealed that construction activities on the vital Lagos-Ibadan Expressway will be put on hold from Tuesday, June 27 to Sunday, July 2, 2023.

The purpose of this suspension is to ensure smooth travel for individuals during the Eid holiday and reduce the inconvenience caused by traffic gridlock during this significant period.

Travelers are advised to cooperate with the Traffic Management Team deployed on the highway to effectively manage traffic flow.
