Sanwo-Olu celebrates six months of successful water transportation without accidents in Lagos

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Saturday, celebrated the successful usage of waterways by the residents without any records of accidents.

Sanwo-Olu, who disclosed this on his official twitter handle @jidesanwoolu, added that in the last 6 months that the waterways have been relaunched, Lagos state waterways authority, LASWA team has been working and the result is what is been celebrated today.

The governor also said the LASWA patrol team in collaboration with the Marine Police are always on standby, day and night monitoring all activities on the waterways ensuring the security of both lives and infrastructure.

He tweeted: “Today, we are celebrating a small but important milestone. In 6 months since we relaunched our bid to allow more residents to use our waterways, we have not had any accidents. Our safety regulations and water patrol teams are working and we are seeing the results.

“Besides the routine inspections of ferries plying the waterways & the removal of water hyacinths causing obstruction to smooth navigation, @TalktoLaswa also donated thousands of life jackets to operators and pupils in the riverine communities to promote the use of life jackets.

“The @talktolaswapatrol team comprising of Water-Guards, officers of the CTU of the Nigerian Police in collaboration with the Marine Police are always on standby, day and night monitoring all activities on the waterways ensuring the security of both lives and infrastructure.”
In the same, the General Manager, Lagos State Waterways Authority, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, has applauded the efforts of the State Government in the water transportation sector, just as he disclosed that there has been zero boat mishap since the beginning of the year 2020, @followlasg tweeted.
Emmanuel pointed out that this enviable achievement was made possible by the administration of Gov.

“LASWA has also donated thousands of life jackets to commercial boat operators and passengers in the riverine communities of Lagos to promote the use of life jackets and its safety awareness programme”, Emmanuel added.

The General Manager maintained that the State government is determined to provide more sustainable investment in inland waterways in order to increase safety and public confidence in the sector
