The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has submitted a second list of cabinet member-nominees to the Lagos State House of Assembly.
This move comes after the House previously confirmed 22 nominees while rejecting 17 out of the initial 39 nominees sent for ratification and confirmation.
One prominent nominee from the rejected list, Prof. Akin Abayomi, the former Commissioner for Health in the state, has been included in the new list.
The screening process for the new nominees will be conducted by the ad hoc committee led by Chief Whip Fatai Mojeed, the same committee that vetted the previous nominees.
The House has set a deadline for the committee to report back on the new nominations by Thursday, September 7, 2023.
“Governor’s Nominees for Commissioners: Speaker Obasa calls on the committee that handled the previous nominees to take charge on the new list sent by the Governor, @jidesanwoolu, and report back to the House by Thursday 7/09/2023.
“Some of the nominees have their documents with you, and you can reach out to the new nominees. I want you to be thorough and do the needful while carrying out this exercise,” the statement partly read.
The rejection of the initial 17 nominees had sparked significant discussion and debate among politicians and residents of the state.
