Role Context
Ensure that DHL Express is the benchmark for security excellence in the express industry. Initiate, co-ordinate and implement investigations into losses and other security incidents relating to DHL assets, personnel and shipments carried by DHL. Develop, implement and monitor policies, procedures and securities practices to safeguard DHL employees and customers’ shipments, DHL assets and information against loss, damager and incidents within the Anglophone countries.
Key responsibilities
- Provide security support to maintain a secure network to meet customer needs.
- Advise country management of any changes and recommend counter measures.
- Provide direction, support and advise on security matters within Nigeria.
- Advise on any security related changes and recommend security practices to ensure policies and business needs are met to specifications.
- Provide a neutral point of contact to any person in DHL to communicate any concerns about violations of the code of conduct, dishonesty, destructive or illegal acts.
- Provide an effective interface with the commercial unit in the investigations and resolution of claims arising from missing, pilfered or damaged shipments and other customer complaints.
- Liaise with other securities agencies within the Courier industry for safe and effective implementations of all international securities procedures, practices, strategies and standards.
- Source appropriate securities vendors and consultants with respect to the purchase of security equipment, undertaking of investigations and escort services for the movement of DHL customers’ sensitive shipments to the regions etc.
- Monitor and audit the security service provided and maintain a monthly performance report.
- Manage the external securities outsourced staffs.
- Establish professional liaison to ensure strong links are maintained between DHL and law enforcement, security officials, local authorities and regulatory bodies, security consultants, private investigators.
- Maintain close working relationship with DHL legal Representatives.
- Enlist the support off all DHL staff to ensure that DHL environment is safe and secure.
- Liaise closely to ensure a cohesive and effective security strategy.
- Provide regular updates on security issues within the Nigeria to the Management team of Nigeria.
- Ensure compliance to regional security policies and procedures.
- Suggest amendment to processes and procedures to meet security needs and mitigate losses.
- Develop, implements, and monitor policies, procedures and security practices to safeguard DHL employees, customers’ shipments, DHL assets and information against loss, damage or incident.
- Co-ordinate country’s security activities and ensure compliance of DHL staff and sub-contractors with security procedures as specified in the Security Policy.
- Conduct Security audits and assist other audit teams both proactively and reactively to assess the effectiveness of security practices and procedures within the country.
- Co-ordinate the implementation of stipulated and other relevant security training programmes for country personnel and in particular DHL specific training programmes such as SAFE.
- Conduct security related investigations and other enquiries as required.
- Conduct and coordinate cross border security investigations to ensure timely resolution of compliance issues.
- Develop extensive contacts with security personnel in a variety of industries, including the Courier industry as well as local law enforcement and regulatory agencies.
- Develop and maintain extensive internal contacts within DHL as security of the shipment in DHL custody is an end-to-end process.
- Provide input and participate in the reporting of security incidents into the database.
- Prepare and analyze the database information for the production of regular reports on shipments and other security incidents, including Dangerous Goods. Where appropriate, recommend and initiate actions to investigate and resolve significant security incidents as they occur.
- Maintain a current threat and risk analysis by systematic analysis of national and international events and criminal trends.
- Ensure that the team is provided with clear direction and performance standards and is staffed, trained and motivated to meet set targets.
- Perform the peap process for direct reports to manage individual performance and career aspirations.

Education & experience
- 10 years’ experience in security, military, or police.
- B.sc or its equivalent
