Senator Iya Abbas, representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, has dismissed reports alleging that the Federal Government provided foodstuffs and cash as palliatives for senators to distribute to their constituents.
In an interview with newsmen in Yola on Monday, the senator refuted the claims, asserting that the foodstuffs and cash gifts he distributed during the recent Christmas and New Year festivities were personally purchased with his funds.
“As I speak to you, nobody gave me money or rice to share as palliatives to our constituents. It was a concocted fabrication aimed at tarnishing our image.
“If it is true, let the contractor bring the invoice for each Senator,” he said.
Emphasizing the baselessness of the reports, the senator challenged those spreading the information to present evidence supporting their claims.
