Senate commences screening of Cardoso, CBN deputy govs nominees

The Senate has initiated the screening process for Dr. Olayemi Cardoso for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

In addition, four deputy governor nominees are also undergoing screening for roles at the apex bank.

The nominees for the positions of Deputy Governors include Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

This screening process comes after the Senate’s annual recess, as announced in a statement by the Media Office of the Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele.

The statement revealed that Dr. Cardoso and the four deputy governors will be screened at the Committee of the Whole.

Furthermore, the Senate has scheduled the screening of ministerial nominees, Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Mr. Ayodele Olawande, designated as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, for October 3.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier approved Dr. Cardoso’s nomination as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on September 15, along with the nomination of four deputy governors for five-year terms, pending Senate confirmation.
