Senate confirms 45 of 48 ministerial nominees; fails to confirm El-Rufai, Danladi, Okotete

Out of the 48 ministerial nominees put forth by President Bola Tinubu, the Senate has approved the confirmation of 45 individuals.

Regrettably, the Senate was unable to grant confirmation for the appointment of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State and ministerial nominee from Kaduna State, as a federal minister of Nigeria.

Similarly, Senator Abubakar Danladi, the former Deputy Governor of Taraba State and ministerial nominee, did not secure confirmation following seven days of meticulous screening.

Stella Okotete, one of the ministerial nominees from Delta State, also faced the same outcome and was not granted confirmation by the Upper Chamber.

According to Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, these candidates were not cleared due to security concerns that need to be addressed.

On a positive note, the Senate has given its approval for the nomination of Nyesom Wike, the immediate past Governor of Rivers State; Senator Dave Umahi, the Deputy Majority Senate Leader and former Governor of Ebonyi State; Festus Keyamo, SAN; Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Hon. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo; and Dele Alake to assume the roles of Ministers Designate.

In total, 45 out of the 48 nominees have received confirmation from the Senate as put forward by President Bola Tinubu.
