The Nigerian Senate has officially confirmed the appointment of Yemi Cardoso as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), along with the confirmation of four deputy governors for the apex bank.
This confirmation came after a thorough screening process conducted by the Senate.
The four deputy governors who were confirmed are Emem Nnana Usoro, Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Philip Ikeazor, and Bala Bello.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation, stating, “The nomination of Olayemi Cardoso is hereby confirmed as governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).”
During the screening process, Cardoso emphasized his commitment to compliance and vowed that the CBN would remain apolitical under his leadership.
He stated that the central bank would adopt a culture of proactive compliance, ensuring that issues are addressed internally without waiting for external oversight.
Yemi Cardoso assumed the position of CBN Governor after being nominated by President Bola Tinubu, following the suspension and subsequent resignation of the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, amidst controversy and allegations of financial misconduct.
