Small arms becoming weapons of mass destruction in Nigeria – FG

The Federal Government has said Small Arms are gradually becoming weapons of mass destruction as they spread havoc on communities.

At a two-day multilateral conference with stakeholders from the Lake Chad Basin region, Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, revealed this on Thursday in Abuja.

The SGF encouraged stakeholders to stop the spread of weaponry in his speech on ‘Curbing Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Lake Chad Basin Region.

Mustapha said: “The Spread of small arms in the lake Chad Basin is a major security concern that portends far-reaching consequences for the region.

“It has contributed to the escalation of conflict and violence obstructing the economic and social development of the countries in the region.”

“It is, therefore, imperative that we work together to curb the spread of small arms in the Lake Chad Basin region,” he said.
