Job Description
- The Special Needs Teacher is responsible for providing individualized education plans (IEPs) and support for students with a wide range of disabilities, including learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disorders, and cognitive impairments.
- The teacher will create a nurturing, inclusive, and structured learning environment that allows students to reach their full potential.
- Collaboration with other teachers, school staff, and families is crucial to ensure students’ academic, social, and emotional development.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
- Assess students’ needs and abilities to create tailored education programs.
- Work closely with parents, counselors, and multidisciplinary teams to develop effective IEPs.
- Monitor progress toward IEP goals, adjusting strategies as necessary to ensure student success.
Instruction and Curriculum Delivery:
- Modify and adapt standard curriculum to meet the diverse learning needs of students with special needs.
- Utilize a variety of teaching techniques, including hands-on learning, technology, and multisensory activities.
- Create a structured classroom environment that fosters both individual and group learning.
Behavioral and Social Support:
- Implement positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS) to promote positive behavior.
- Help students develop social skills and emotional regulation techniques.
- Address behavioral issues with patience, creativity, and support, focusing on conflict resolution.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with general education teachers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, and other specialists to support student learning.
- Regularly communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and successes.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops, and IEP meetings as required.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Evaluate and document student progress through observations, testing, and performance-based assessments.
- Provide regular reports on student progress, both to parents and the school administration.
Classroom Management:
- Establish clear behavioral and academic expectations for students.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, and supportive learning environment that fosters growth and independence.
