The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has urged the 2023 main UTME candidates to print their examination notification slips from 20th April 2023.

The notification slip would contain the candidate’s exam location, date, and time, as well as additional details required to take the 2023 UTME, which starts on Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

In a statement on Friday, the board’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, announced the start of the 2023 UTME and instructed all candidates to print their examination notification slips before or on April 24, 2023, by visiting https://www.jamb.gov.ng, and click on “2023 UTME SLIP PRINTING” on the menu bar to know the venue and time of their examination.

Benjamin pointed out that the information on the slip would make it simple for candidates to find their testing centers.

Furthermore, as the start time for the exam listed on the notification slips is sacred, candidates are recommended to find their centers before the day of their examination to avoid arriving late.

However, the board advised applicants against bringing restricted items inside the testing rooms, including watches, calculators, flash drives, and phones, among others.

The examination board also restated its zero tolerance for examination malpractice.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has about 817 prospective candidates are to re-register for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) over infractions.

The decision by the exam body followed the invalidation of the examination registrations done by the candidates and their Computer Based Test centres.

The JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Oloyede made this announcement following discussions with stakeholders on the current registration process on Tuesday.

According to him, the registrations were cancelled due to several infractions including the usage of unidentified biometric fingerprints during exam registration.

Oloyede disclosed that employees at the affected Computer Based Test (CBT) centers registered candidates by using their own fingerprints, a blatant violation of the rules governing candidate registration.

The Registrar, however, promised the affected candidates that they would be given another opportunity to re-register for the exam but with the centres bearing the cost as a penalty for the infraction

“For the students who allowed other people to add their fingers to their registration procedure. We found that some of them were only naive because you will hear them saying my finger was hot and the man added his own. And you allowed him to add his own?

“Some of them did it deliberately for impersonation but we can’t distinguish those who are genuine from those who are not genuine. We will cancel all of them. All the registrations and we will ask them to re-register.

“The centres involved, we have just met with them, and they all confessed, nobody is disputing it, even students that were telling lies, they know we have the technology that won’t allow any lie to be accommodated.

“On their own (CBT owners), they suggested the solution. We will cancel the registrations of those people concerned and we will send a message to them to go back to the very centres where they were registered and the CBT centres will pay to the board the cost of registration of the candidates.”

“By adding his or her finger to your registration, it means he or she can change all your particulars when you are not there. You know your finger is what is used to identify you. The person can change your examination centre like say from Lagos to Ibadan, and on the exam day, you won’t be able to write the exam.

“That is why we put in place a device that will throw up any strange finger that is not yours and that is why we were able to identify them.

Speaking on the recent suspension of five CBT Centres for selling UTME registration pins above the stipulated price, the JAMB boss said four of the five have been let off the hook.

He, however, said the excess payment would be refunded by the affected CBT centres to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for necessary action.

“Those who sold our pins to candidates beyond the approved limit, we have decided to lift the ban on four of the five after they have explained, and they have given us an apology and they have explained what happened.

“One didn’t come so we are not lifting the suspension. The four of them, one of them that came, we are still doing an investigation (on the centre).

“As for those who overcharged, all the candidates who overpaid we are compiling the list. The overpayment will be paid by those vendors and those institutions to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.

” They will pay the money to them and the law will determine what to do because I don’t believe the money should go back to the candidates because if you can pay N3,000, N5,000, N6,000 above the cost, you do not deserve any sympathy. I believe the money should not go back to them because we told them not to pay but now that they have paid we will recover the money and pay it to the appropriate government agency because if we retain it, they will say JAMB is looking for money, we are not looking for dirty money, we will therefore return the money to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, so as decides by the law, they can even take it to a charity home and give it to those in need.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Monday, announced that from January, 31,2023, no candidate would be registered without the provision of an email address.

In a statement issued by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB noted that the evaluation of their advice on the ongoing UTME registration was done to make sure that best practices were followed in the process of obtaining all pertinent data pertaining to the candidates.

The statement read; “The Board added that the latest Advisory aside from aiding in eliciting relevant and up-to-date data of candidates, is also imperative for facilitating the transmission of urgent and vital communication to candidates cheaply and efficiently.

“Furthermore, the e-mail provides more flexibility in communication and is a more professional way of reaching out to candidates.

“Candidates are, therefore, advised to get their genuine e-mail addresses before proceeding for UTME registration.

“In addition, candidates are to ensure that their passwords are kept securely as the Board does not retrieve lost e-mail passwords or change e-mail addresses once registered.”

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has assured of a hitch-free 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The board is set to commence the processes for the examination scheduled for February 14.

The Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, met with all Commissioners of Education on Monday in Lagos.

The board promised to tackle most of the challenges recorded during the conduct of the past examinations.

Oloyede said the meeting briefed the commissioners on JAMB’s level of preparedness and sought their support.

The establishment of world-class Computer Based Test (CBT) centres nationwide was discussed, he disclosed.

“We showed them the result of the 2023 centre accreditation for the conduct of the examination.

“A total of 600 centres have been approved, out of the over 800 that applied,” the Registrar confirmed.

The figure is 140 less than the total number used for the exercise in 2022.

Due to this, a sharp drop is expected in the number of personnel that would be engaged.

JAMB Director of Media and Protocol, Fabian Benjamin, said the examination would not clash with the general elections.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has approved the commencement of registration for the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from Jan. 24 to Feb. 14, 2023.

The Board also fixed March 16, 2023, for the conduct of its optional mock UTME.

The board’s Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin made this known in a  statement in Abuja on Tuesday.

Benjamin said that the board, however, does not include registration for Direct Entry (DE) application documents as the DE registration would commence from Feb. 20 to April 20, 2023.

Also, he said the board, after considering its other commitments, fixed April 29, 2023, for the conduct of the 2023 UTME, and is expected to end on May 12, 2023.

“Candidates are to note that they would be required to pay the sum of N1000 service charge for CBT centres for the conduct of mock examination at the point of registration.

“This is to prevent a situation where candidates would indicate their interest to sit the mock UTME leading the various centres to commit human and material resources only for them to stay away on the day of the examination.

“With the new arrangement, candidates indicate their interest by paying for the mock at the point of UTME registration, therefore, precluding the centres from incurring any loss whether candidates turn up or not.

“The board advises all candidates, who desire to register for the 2023 UTME to immediately embark on the creation of their respective profiles (creation of profile code) ahead of the formal commencement of the registration exercise to avoid being caught up in any ensuing bottleneck,” he said.
