The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended four suspected members of the dreaded Eiye cult group.

Their arrest was made when they were reportedly holding a nocturnal meeting in preparation for an attack to be launched on members of another cult group.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects, Oriyomi Bankole a.k.a Ortom, Odedina Sodiq, Shofola Ayodeji, and Adelawa Ayo were arrested at different locations in Oke-Lantoro and Technical College, Leme in Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi said, “a credible information received by the police that the suspects were meeting in those locations, planning to launch attack after their meeting.

“Upon the information, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, ordered the CSP Shobiyi Oluwatoshin led anti-cultists section to storm the place and dislodge the hoodlums.

“In compliance with the CP’s order, the team moved to the scene at about 8:30 pm where the four amongst the hoodlums were arrested while others escaped.

Recovered from them are; cutlass, battle axes, and criminal charms.”

The PPRO said the commissioner of police,  Lanre Bankole, had assured the people of the state that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of criminal elements masquerading as cultists.

Oyeyemi said, “the commissioner, therefore, appealed to the general public to partner with the police in waging war against the criminals by informing the police whenever strange gathering is noticed in their vicinity.”

Two bandits have been shot dead in a gun battle with police in Ogun State.

Spokesman of Ogun Police Command, Abimbola Oyeyemi said two AK-47 rifles were recovered from the bandits during the crossfire which occurred at Bere forest in Onigaari area along with Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Oyeyemi disclosed that the armed bandits opened fire on men of the command who were on a combing operation in the forest following a tip-off.

He said “At the end of the encounter, one of the bandits was shot dead on the spot, while others escaped with varying degrees of gunshot injuries. Searching the forest further, one of the bandits with bullet wounds was arrested in the bush but gave up the ghost a few minutes later. Two Ak 47 riffles with breech numbers 1983NF1040 and 1987-3-CA-1212 with five rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. The latest riffle recovery makes it four Ak 47 riffles recovered by the command within the period of two weeks. Also recovered from them are sachets of tramadol and assorted charms”

The commissioner of police, Edward Awolowo Ajogun has ordered a massive manhunt for the remaining members of the gang and appealed to public members, especially hospitals not to hesitate to inform the police if anyone with gunshot injuries is seen in their area.

Two men identified as Damilare Oyeniyi, 30, and Emmanuel Okori, 20 have been arrested by the Ogun state police command for allegedly gang-raping a 19-year-old girl and filming her nude.

The suspects who committed the crime on December 12, 2020, in the Sango area of the state was arrested four days later by policemen attached to the Sango Divisional Police Station. 

Ogun police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi said  the suspects were arrested following a report lodged at the Sango Police Station by the victim who is their neighbour. 

Oyeyemi said “Upon the report, the DPO Sango Division, CSP Godwin Idehai, detailed his detectives to go after the suspects and bring them to book. The investigative effort of the detectives paid off on December 16, 2020, when the duo was eventually arrested. On interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the crime. They confessed that they videoed her nude, which they used to threaten her not to report or else the video would be posted on social media. The state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.”

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the death of Nigerian footballer, Tiyamiyu ‘Kaka’ Kazeem, who was allegedly killed by a policeman from the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) on Saturday afternoon.

Kazeem, who was the assistant captain and defender of Remo Stars Football Club was reportedly on his way to Sagamu from Abeokuta with one of his teammates when they ran into SARS operatives who labelled Kazeem as a ‘yahoo boy.’

Despite presenting his identity (ID) card to identify himself as a player of Remo Stars FC, his club said in a statement that the officers insisted on taking them to a nearby station. While on their way, one of the officers allegedly pushed Tiyamiyu to a moving vehicle, leading to his death.

Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi provided a contradicting statement, saying Kazeem was knocked down by a moving vehicle while trying to escape from Police.

“A Police Inspector attached to Zonal Intervention Squad Obada-Oko in Abeokuta said to have received information about the deceased that he always put on military apparel knowing fully well that he is not a military personnel. Based on the information, the Inspector went to Shagamu and saw the deceased putting on a military cap consequent upon which he got him arrested. On the way to Abeokuta, the vehicle they were traveling with developed a mechanical fault and while the officer was trying to rectify the fault, the arrested person jumped down from the vehicle to escape. In his bid to run across the road, an oncoming vehicle which is on high speed knocked him down and he died on the spot. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Police Command, has ordered the immediate arrest of the officer for his unprofessional act of leaving an arrested person alone in the vehicle. A full-scale investigation into the case has commenced by the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.”

Kayode Oladehinde, a 50-year-old man has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

The suspect was arrested following a complaint filed by the mother of the victim at Ogijo Divisional headquarters. Oladehinde was accused of giving the girl a drug that left her bleeding profusely after he realized she was pregnant.

Ogun State Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect and also disclosed that the incident occurred on February 4 at Ogijo in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.

He said, “Men of the Ogun State Police Command on 5th of February 2020 arrested one Kayode Oladehinde ‘m’ a resident of Olope Street Ogijo for defiling his 13-year-old stepdaughter (name withheld) The suspect was arrested following a report from the mother of the victim who complained at Ogijo Divisional Headquarters that her daughter informed her on the 4th of February 2020 that the suspect, who is her present husband, sometimes recently forcefully had carnal knowledge of her as a result of which she got pregnant.”
