Super Eagles captain, Ahmed Musa, and Samuel Chukwueze have been ruled out of Nigeria’s international friendly against Algeria. The pair have been replaced with Godwin Saviour and Ebube Duru.

The friendly against Algeria will take place at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium, Oran on Tuesday, September 27.

We’re regrouping again for a friendly against Algeria on September 27, 2022. Quick update: Injured (Ruled out of the friendly): Musa, Chukwueze, Balogun, Onyekuru. Replacements: Ozornwafor, Godwin Saviour, Ebube Duru, Dennis,” a statement from National Team read.

They become the third and fourth player to miss the encounter after the duo of Leon Balogun and Henry Onyekuru pulled out of the game on account of injuries.

Musa, who made his first start for Sivasspor on Sunday in their 2-1 loss to Ankaragucu was replaced after 19th minutes by Clinton N’Jie after he fractured his arm in the encounter after stretching his left hand in a duel with a defender.

Musa’s left arm was fractured and the treatment process has started immediately,” a statement on Sivasspor’s website reads.

The 29-year-old is Nigeria’s most-capped player in history, having played 106 matches since his debut aged just 17 in 2010. He helped the Eagles win the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations and played for them at the last two World Cups.

The World Health Organization has listed Nigeria and twelve other nations as high-risk African countries for coronavirus.

Nigeria, Algeria, Angola, Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia were identified as African nations with direct links or a high volume of travel to China.

The statement read “WHO has identified 13 top priority countries (Algeria, Angola, Cote d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia) which either have direct links or a high volume of travel to China. To ensure rapid detection of the novel coronavirus, it is important to have laboratories which can test samples and WHO is supporting countries to improve their testing capacity. Since this is a new virus, there are currently only two referral laboratories in the African region which have the reagents needed to conduct such tests. However, reagent kits are being shipped to more than 20 other countries in the region, so diagnostic capacity is expected to increase over the coming days. Active screening at airports has been established in a majority of these countries and while they will be WHO first areas of focus, the organization will support all countries in the region in their preparation efforts. It is critical that countries step up their readiness and in particular put in place effective screening mechanisms at airports and other major points of entry to ensure that the first cases are detected quickly”.

Algeria has won their second African Cup of Nations after defeating Senegal 1-0 in a scrappy final.

It was an early scrappy strike that decided the match as Baghdad Bounedjah ball was deflected into the net.

The game didn’t really create any spark as only few chances were created, though the story would have been different if Sengal’s penalty call wasn’t overturn by VAR.

For Senegal a win would have mean they will secure their first Cup of Nations trophy but it was Algeria who secure their second African Cup of Nations trophy after 29 years.

Coach of the Super Eagles, Gernot Rohr has said that his team lost to a better side in the semi -finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt on Sunday.

With seconds to go, Riyad Mahrez scored free kick from the edge of the box as Algeria defeated Nigeria 2-1.

Rohr told newsmen during a post – match interview that it was a game of two halves, adding however that Algeria were the better side at the end of the day .

He said “Until the last minute, Algeria had a better first half than us, but we came back a much better team in the second half. Unfortunately, we conceded a goal in the last minute. I think the players wanted to go to extra time believing that perhaps Algeria will get tired and we could win the match in extra time. It was a wonderful game . We lost it , so we are not happy. Congrats to the winners. They were the better team in the first half. We scored an own goal, we were unlucky but we came back like we have always done all the time in this tournament. When we found ourselves in a difficult situation, we always reacted and we did that also today coming back through a penalty and playing a better second half but a wonderful free – kick from a football genius made the difference. In our last game , we won in the last minute against South Africa and today we lost. That’s football, ”
