The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, made this known on Monday in Abuja while speaking to journalists on the sideline of the 5th Annual General Assembly meeting of the Network of National Anti-Corruption Institutions in West Africa.

The commission’s boss said Obiano had yet to perfect the conditions the EFCC stipulated for his release on bail.

Recall that Obiano, who is under investigation for N42 billion fraud, has been in EFCC custody since Thursday when he was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to leave for the United States.

Bawa explained that the commission was waiting for him to perfect his bail.

Explaining why the Ex-governor was kept in the custody beyond the period allowed by the constitution, Bawa said, “Nothing political about the arrest of the former Anambra State Governor, Wille Obiano. He has been granted bail.”

The EFCC boss, however did not disclose the details of the bail.

This was prior to the announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission that voting would continue on Sunday (today).

The extension was due to the malfunctioning of the newly deployed Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, which disrupted accreditation and voting in some areas, the commission said.

The top contenders were the candidates of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Chukwuma Soludo; All Progressives Congress, Andy Uba; and Peoples Democratic Party, Valentine Ozigbo.

The APC candidate, who voted at Saint Peter’s Catholic School, Uga Ward 16, Polling Unit 10 of Aguata Local Government, scored 80, followed by APGA with 10 votes, YPP scored five votes while PDP scored two votes.

The candidate of the PDP, who voted at polling unit 010 Social Center, Ward 005, of the Aguata Local Government, Area scored 75 votes, followed by APGA with eight votes while the APC scored two.

The candidate of APGA, who voted at Isuofia Ward 13, Unit 002 in the Aguata LGA, scored 126 votes while PDP scored five and both APC and YPP scored three votes each.

The overhauling includes the deployment of selected seasoned Strategic Commanders from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above to Anambra State for effective supervision of security personnel and operations in the Elections.

The IGP noted that the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Joseph Egbunike has been deployed to Anambra State as the Coordinator of the security component for the Elections.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CP Frank Mba said, “DIG Egbunike is saddled with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the Operation Order evolved from the Election Security Threat Assessment, to ensure a peaceful environment devoid of violence and conducive enough to guarantee that law-abiding citizen freely perform their civic responsibilities without molestation or intimidation. DIG Egbunike will be assisted by the DIG in charge of Operations, Acting DIG Zaki Ahmed. Other Strategic Commanders deployed to Anambra State include five (5) Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIGs), fourteen (14) Commissioners of Police (CPs), thirty-one (31) Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) and forty-eight (48) Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs). The Senior Officers are to coordinate human and other operational deployments in the three (3) Senatorial Districts, twenty-one (21) Local Government Areas and the 5720 polling units in Anambra State. The IGP reassures the nation that the Force is adequately prepared for the Gubernatorial Elections in Anambra State come November 6th, 2021. He reiterates that the Force will do everything within its powers to work with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and all stakeholders to protect democratic values, provide a level playing field for all political actors, ensure adequate protection of voters, INEC personnel and equipment, accredited observers and other key players in Anambra State. The IGP calls on citizens in Anambra State to come out en masse and exercise their franchise as adequate security have been emplaced to protect them before, during and after the elections.”

According to reports, the armed men who rode in three Hilux trucks first stormed the B Police Division where they shot sporadically into the air for over one hour before proceeding to the INEC office.

It is however not clear if there was massive destruction at the government facilities or killing of any public officer.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Tochukwu Ikenga, while confirming the incident, said details are still sketchy and that he would release a statement as soon as he gets full details.

Government facilities including INEC offices and police stations have been attacked by unknown gunmen in recent times.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, states that police operatives attached to Okpoko Division arrested the suspect who allegedly lured the victim and had unlawful carnal knowledge with her inside his room using biscuit as a bait.

Haruna said immediately the report was made at the station, police detectives visited the scene and took the victim to the hospital for medical Examination where penetration was confirmed by the medical doctor.

He said the case would be transferred to the State criminal investigation department for discreet investigation as directed by the Commissioner of Police CP John B.Abang, fdc, after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution.
