Men of the Lagos state police command have arrested 185 notorious cultists including hitmen of Aiye and Eiye confraternities in the state

A statement released by Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the state police command, says two weeks ago, the Commissioner for Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc, ordered the deployment of Special forces from the Command’s tactical units to Ikorodu and environs to tackle the menace of cultism and gang violence. Rival cult groups, especially in the Ikorodu area, have in the last few weeks, engaged themselves in a supremacy battle with resultant death from both sides.

Bala said a successful operation by the team has led to the arrest of 185 notorious cultists and the recovery of 8 locally made pistols and other dangerous weapons from them.

He said the suspects arrested confessed to belonging to Eiye, Aiye, KK, Buccaneers, Vikings confraternities, among other cult groups. According to his statement. one Gbadamosi Mohammed, 30, suspected to be among the cultists who killed one Madariola Sunday at Ibeshe on May 21, was among the suspects arrested. Also arrested are Onibudo Afeex ‘m’, Habeeb Isa ‘m’, Felix Igwoke ‘m’, Taiwo Iyanu ‘m’ at Femi Taiwo Street, Ikorodu. Bala said they were arrested in an uncompleted building holding cult meeting.

The spokesperson added that 25-year-old Adeoye Daya said to be a hitman of Aiye confraternity was arrested at Ikorodu garage with one locally made short gun and rounds of live cartridges. He added that one Shodeinde Tosin said to be a hitman of Eiye confraternity in Igbogbo was also arrested with a locally made short gun.

He said all the suspects will be charged to court soon

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that two officers linked to the death of 16-year-old Tina Ezekwe in Iyana-Oworo area of the state are on trial.

Recall that the killing of the teenager by a trigger-happy policeman last week Tuesday, incited an outrage as many demanded for justice.

Lagos State Police Spokesperson, Bala Elkana said the two police officers suspected to have carried out the shooting have been arrested and subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings.

He affirmed that the Lagos Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odomosu had ordered an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the victim at Iyana-Oworo area of the metropolis.

The statement reads “Recall that on May 29, 2020, the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, ordered an in-depth investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Tina Ezekwe in the Iyana-Oworo area of Lagos State. Investigation so far revealed that the conduct of the two police officers, ASP Theophilus Otobo and Inspector Oguntoba Olamigoke, who were linked to the incident, fell short of professional standards. in view of the above, the command has commenced internal disciplinary proceedings against the two officers. While the ASP has been served an official query in line with the provisions of the public service rules, Inspector Oguntoba Olamigoke is undergoing an orderly-room trial at the state command provost’s office.  The ASP will be appearing before the Force Disciplinary Board sitting in Abuja, whose recommended punishment will be forwarded to the Police Service Commission for approval. Meanwhile, the CP assures all stakeholders that as soon as the internal disciplinary proceedings have been duly exhausted and the culpability of the indicted officers established, they will be arraigned.”

The Lagos state police command has released photos of the police officers accused of killing 17-year-old Tina Ezekwe in the Iyana-Oworo area of the state.

The spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Bala Elkana, who released the photos of the accused police officers, gave their names as ASP Theophilus Otobo and Inspector Oguntoba Olamigoke. He said the police officers have been subjected to internal disciplinary proceedings and if found culpable, will be arraigned in Court.

Bala said “The incident happened on 26th May 2020 at about 2245 hours. The said Police Officers fired shots from their pin down point along with Berger by third mainland bridge, in a circumstances yet to be determined one Musa Yakubu ‘m’ 35 years was injured at the point and a stray bullet hit Tina at Berger Yanaworu Bus stop. The bullet pierced through the left upper side of her lap. She was rushed to hospital by a team of Policemen led by the Divisional Police Officer. The battle to safe her life lasted for two days, she died on 28th May 2020 at about 2129 hours while on admission. The second person is in stable condition. The Command deeply sympathised with the family and friends of the deceased person. The Commissioner of Police calls for calm and assures the family that the perpetrators of this dastardly act will face the full weight of the law. He reiterated his stance on zero tolerance for impunity. Members of the public will be updated on the outcome of the investigation”

The Lagos state police command has arrested a 50-year-old man, for alleged defilement of his 19-year-old daughter since she was 11.

The spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana, in a statement released, said the suspect was arrested after his 45-year-old wife reported the matter at the Ikotun police station.

It was alleged that the suspect’s incestuous behaviour was discovered by his wife at their Kajola Street, Ikotun residence after she noticed their daughter was being disrespectful towards her father.

The woman was said to have asked her daughter what was wrong and she opened up to her mum that her father has been raping her since she was 11.

The suspect was arrested by detectives from the Family Support Unit. He confessed to committing the crime. After a thorough investigation the suspect was charged to Chief Magistrate Court ll Ogba on five counts of incest, rape, sexual harassment, defilement and sexual assault on May 11.The suspect has been detained, while the court adjourned the case for further hearing until June 15.

23-year-old Olowolayemo Sodiq said to be a wanted notorious traffic robbery suspect and the alleged cult leader has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspect, who conspired with one Bamidele Moses a.k.a Badoo and robbed one Jude Saka of his Bajaj motorcycle in December 2019, was arrested by detectives from Bariga police station in Lagos State.

Lagos Police Spokesperson, Bala Elkana who confirmed the arrest said “His accomplice was initially arrested by detectives from Bariga and transferred to the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in October 2019. The suspect has been on the police wanted list for series of traffic robberies and cult violent attacks in Bariga. The Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to SARS for further investigation and diligent prosecution.”
