R. Kelly has hired Bill Cosby’s high-profile attorney to help appeal his racketeering conviction in New York.

Chicago Tribune reported that Jennifer Bonjean, a New York-based lawyer, filed her appearance in the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer’s case in the U.S. District Court in Brooklyn where the musician was convicted on sex abuse and racketeering charges last month.

Bonjean told the outlet that she plans to lead Kelly’s appeal and post-conviction motions, which are due on Monday (Nov. 1). However, she has requested a two-month extension.

Recall Bonjean spearheaded Cosby’s appeal of his sex crimes conviction in Pennsylvania and helped get the actor released from prison.

The attorney told the Chicago Tribune that she is “looking forward to getting familiar with the record” in the Chicago native’s case, which was driven by Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) charges.

“I am becoming increasingly concerned with how the government is abusing the RICO statute in order to plead around the statute of limitations and essentially put people’s entire lives on trial,” Bonjean said. “It’s becoming a formula for the government. You have a right to defend yourself against specific allegations.”

Kelly was convicted of one count of racketeering, with 14 underlying acts that included sexual exploitation of a child, bribery, kidnapping and sex trafficking charges last month.  He was also convicted of eight counts of violations of the Mann Act, a sex trafficking law that makes it illegal to move anyone across state lines “for any immoral purpose.”

Kelly’s sentencing is set for May 4, 2022, where he potentially faces 10 years to life in prison.

Last week, a Chicago judge set the date for the child pornography trial that he is facing in his home state. The disgraced singer was accused of recording his sexual encounters with multiple underage girls and bribing possible witnesses with cash and gifts to remain silent about his crimes. He is set to stand trial for those federal sex charges next August.

Bill Cosby’s accuser, Andrea Constand is breaking her silence about the comic actor’s release from prison two months ago.

Constand is the woman whose testimony put the comic actor behind the bars after she had accused him of drugging and violating her, only for him to have his conviction overturned on a technicality in June.

Speaking in a new interview with The New York Times, to promote her new memoir, Constand said she was left shocked and angry at the court decision after Cosby’s conviction was reversed.

‘I had a lump in my throat,’ she said. ‘I really felt they were setting a predator loose and that made me sick.’

Asked about the comedian’s conviction being overturned, she said: ‘I was really shocked. Disappointed.’

But she insisted she had no regrets, saying: ‘I have come way too far to go back to that place to wonder whether it’s all worth it or to have regrets. It was worth it. It was worth it.’

Cosby, after spending nearly three years in prison, walked free in June when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his 2018 conviction.

The conviction was secured after two trials, on charges filed by Constand, a Canadian former basketball coach at Temple University in Philadelphia.

The court found that Cosby relied on a written promise from a district attorney that he would never be charged if he gave incriminating testimony in Constand’s civil lawsuit – only to have it later used against him in two criminal trials.

That civil suit saw Cosby pay Constand $3.8 million. Prosecutors in suburban Philadelphia must decide this month whether to appeal the decision to the U.S Supreme Court.

Constand has now decided to tell her story in a memoir out Tuesday called ‘The Moment.’ She admitted that, when she was told of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court’s decision, she was angered that he would be back on the streets. She said she received phone calls and messages from other women who had accused Cosby, explaining: ‘They were devastated, they were so angry.’

‘After a few deep breaths, I just felt this is not my problem,’ she said.  Now it made me feel the shame is on the Supreme Court. It’s not on me anymore. I hope it doesn’t deter anybody. I hope people will still find their voices. I hope that they don’t look at his freedom as a reason not to come forward. Quite the contrary, I hope they feel if Andrea can do it, I can do it.

There were so many victories along the way.  Society paid attention. Now that I have weathered yet another strange turn in this long saga, I realize that I cannot let reversals like the (Pennsylvania) Supreme Court decision defeat me,’ she writes, of the verdict being overturned. Life is unpredictable. Much is beyond our control. In the end, happiness is all that matters and I am determined to live a happy, purposeful life.’

Bill Cosby has issued a statement after his release from prison.

On Wednesday, Pennsylvania’s highest court overturned his indecent assault conviction and ordered his release from prison, ruling that the prosecutor who brought the case was bound by his predecessor’s agreement not to charge Cosby.

The Supreme court found out that that testimony tainted the trial, even though a lower appeal court had found it appropriate to show a signature pattern of drugging and molesting women.

The American comedian and actor, 83, served nearly three years of a three-to 10-year sentence after being found guilty of drugging and violating Temple University sports administrator Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004.

The former “Cosby Show” star – the first celebrity tried and convicted in the #MeToo era – didn’t comment at a news conference outside his home, where his lawyer Jennifer Bonjean said “We are thrilled to have Mr Cosby home. He served three years of an unjust sentence and he did it with dignity and principle”

The actor has now taken to his Twitter page to thank his fans, supporters, and friends, insisting that, ‘I have always maintained my innocence.’

“I have never changed my stance nor my story. I have always maintained my innocence. Thank you to all my fans, supporters and friends who stood by me through this ordeal. Special thanks to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law”

Bill Cosby was released from prison on Wednesday, June 30, after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his indecent assault conviction and ordered his release from prison

The Supreme court overturned the sex assault conviction after finding an agreement with a previous prosecutor prevented him from being charged in the case.

It was disclosed that that testimony tainted the trial, even though a lower appeal court had found it appropriate to show a signature pattern of drugging and molesting women.

The American comedian and actor, 83, served nearly three years of a three-to 10-year sentence after being found guilty of drugging and violating Temple University sports administrator Andrea Constand at his suburban Philadelphia home in 2004. But maintained his innocence in the case.

After his release from prison, his spokesperson Andrew Wyatt and lawyer Jennifer Bonjean spoke to journalists outside his home following his release from prison.

US comedian, Bill Cosby was denied parole in his sex assault case this month due to his failure to complete a prison program for sex offenders, the Pennsylvania Parole Board has said.

Cosby, 83, was convicted in 2018 of drugging and sexually assaulting Andrea Constand at his suburban Pennsylvania mansion in 2004. He was later sentenced to three to 10 years in state prison.

The comedian isn’t eligible for release until Sept. 25 at the earliest, but the board starts interviewing candidates three to five months in advance and spoke to Cosby by video conference on May 7, board spokeswoman Laura Treaster told the NewYork Daily News on Thursday.

Laura Treaster said they denied his parole following the interview.  In a letter detailing its decision, the board cited Cosby’s failure to complete the therapy, failure to develop a parole release plan and a “negative recommendation” from corrections officials.

The next time Cosby goes before the board, officials will look to see whether he has “successfully participated in/successfully completed a treatment program for sex offenders and violence prevention,” the letter shared by Treaster said.

Cosby’s longtime spokesman, Andrew Wyatt, said the decision “was not a surprise” after Cosby refused to participate in what he called a “sexually violent predator” course.

Wyatt said “Mr Cosby has vehemently proclaimed his innocence and continues to deny all allegations made against him. Today, Mr Cosby continues to remain hopeful that the Pennslyvania State Supreme Court will issue an opinion to vacate his conviction or warrant him a new trial.”

Andrew Wyatt a spokesman for Bill Cosby has put Eddie Murphy on blast after the comedian made jokes at Cosby’s expense during his opening monologue as he made his historic return to ‘Saturday Night Live’ after 35 years.

Murphy took a swipe at Cosby who’s serving three to 10 years in prison after being found guilty in April 2018 on three counts of aggravated indecent assault for drugging and sexually assaulting a woman at his home in 2004.

Murphy said “But if you would have told me 30 years ago that I would be this boring, stay-at-home … house dad and Bill Cosby would be in jail,” Murphy said to laughter, “even I would have took that bet.”

In response to the jibe, Cosby’s spokesman Andrew Wyatt released a statement on Sunday, saying it was Cosby who “broke colour barriers in the Entertainment Industry” so that Murphy and other comedians like Dave Chappelle and Kevin Hart could perform.

Murphy’s jokes were “disparaging,” the statement said, adding, “One would think that Mr. Murphy was given his freedom to leave the plantation, so that he could make his own decisions; but he decided to sell himself back to being a Hollywood Slave.”

He said “Remember, Mr. Murphy, that Bill Cosby became legendary because he used comedy to humanize all races, religions, and genders; but your attacking Mr. Cosby helps you embark on just becoming clickbait. Hopefully, you will be amenable to having a meeting of the minds conversation, in order to discuss how we can use our collective platforms to enhance Black people rather than bringing all of us down together.”
