However, research by the Nuffield Trust think-tank particularly points to shortages of anaesthetists, paediatricians, psychiatrists, heart and lung specialists.

According to the study, around 37,000 doctors from European countries were working in Britain in 2021.

Brexit had led to slower recruitment of medical staff. Without it, Britain would currently have around 41,300 European doctors, almost 4,300 more than now.

Since Britain left the European Union, specialists need work visas, which are associated with high costs and cumbersome bureaucracy.

Even if more Britons were trained doctors, the current shortage would not be solved quickly because of the length of time it takes to qualify in the medical profession, Kitty Mohan of the British Medical Association said.

Meanwhile, Britain’s NHS is chronically underfunded and understaffed.

In England alone, there is an overall shortage of more than 10,500 doctors.

A shortage of available permanent homes meant thousands of those Afghans who fought alongside British forces or fled in fear of their lives have been put up in hotels.

Late last month the Home Office permanent secretary Matthew Rycroft said 7,000 Afghans were in emergency accommodation, and many would remain there into the New Year.

The resettlement scheme, tagged Operation Warm Welcome, launched on August 29 to resettle Afghans in Britain. However, a doctor said he’s had “a few patients telling me they want to go home” already.

The Helen Bamber Foundation said contractors at some of the hotels were unaware of their obligation to get them signed up. The charity’s lead doctor Jill O’Leary said the Home Office had a “blind spot when it comes to vulnerability”.

Health charity Medcat also expressed concerns with the provisions for “destitute” asylum seekers.

A spokesperson said: “Arrangements by the Home Office and its contractors to house those waiting in interim publicly funded accommodation are medically dangerous.”

In Greenwich, London, the council said nearly 700 Afghans have been resettled locally and slammed the “reprehensible” lack of clarity about what would happen to them once their quarantine period ended.

Deputy leader Councillor Denise Scott-McDonald said on September 9: “Having been through hell, the government continues to fail Afghan refugees. These are people who have experienced unimaginable trauma, sleepless nights, and fear for their family members back home. They now have the additional worry of not knowing where they will be sent next. The lack of basic leadership from the government is putting people’s lives at risk.”

A spokesperson for the Home Office said: “The UK’s biggest and fastest emergency evacuation in recent history helped over 15,000 people to safety, and hotels remain a temporary measure to help accommodate those we brought here. It is going to take time to find permanent homes for everyone but we are working urgently with our partners to do so. Our aim is to support everyone who is resettled here to build a successful life in the UK, and that is why we work around the clock to provide wrap-around support to families. This includes working closely with local authorities across the UK to ensure everyone temporarily accommodated in hotels has access to essential provisions, healthcare, education and universal credit.”

A US government official told the Sun: ‘The US and the UK have a close, productive and resilient law enforcement and mutual legal assistance relationship.

‘We remain in close contact on many active cases on a daily basis and will continue to seek assistance in criminal matters as we provide similar assistance in return.’

Prosecutors last year sent the British government a formal request, known as a mutual legal assistance treaty (MLAT) submission, asking for access to the prince so they could talk to him.

In support of his comments, the Kremlin said Moscow would respond harshly to any similar actions in the future and warned against any further ‘provocations’.

Gabriel Diya, 52, and his son Praise-Emmanuel Diya, 16, were named as the family members who died trying to save his daughter, 9-year-old Comfort Diya, after she became trapped in a resort pool on Christmas Eve, according to The Telegraph.

The family is based in London, but the teenage boy was traveling on a U.S. passport, the paper said.

Dad Diya, originally from Ile-Ife, Nigeria, was a pastor at Open Heavens in southeast London, part of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, a Nigeria-based network of religious groups.

The group offered “prayers” as it confirmed the news with “heavy hearts” in a Facebook tribute. It added that Diya’s wife, Olubunmi — who witnesses said was desperately praying as CPR was administered to her husband and kids — is also an assistant pastor.

Diya and his teenage son are believed to have died after trying to save Comfort when she became trapped underwater at the Club La Costa World in Las Lagunas de Mijas near Málaga.

Police later found her swimming cap inside the pool’s pump system – suggesting the three family members may have been sucked to their deaths, according to reports.

It is hoped Thursday’s election, which is being held more than two years ahead of schedule, will break Britain’s political impasse over Brexit and determine its future relationship with the European Union. Additionally, all 650 seats in the House of Commons seats are up for grabs.

The House of Commons consented the legislation by a wide margin of 438 votes to 20. Making the first December election since 1923 possible.

However, the bill yet to be approved by the Lords could become law before the week runs out.

There will be a five-week campaign up to polling day if that goes into effect.

The Brexit deal and Parliamentary deadlock have been the cause of the UK’s exit being further extended to 31^st January. Nonetheless, Boris Johnson hopes that the election will give him a fresh mandate.

“It is time to come together to get Brexit done,” The PM said as he exited a meeting of the 1922 Committee of backbench Conservatives held shortly after the vote.
