The United States Governor of Colorado Jared Polis, on Monday, assented to landmark legislation, guaranteeing women’s right to abortion.

The governor signed into law, following the longest debate in Colorado House history, the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which codifies women’s right to make reproductive healthcare decisions – free from government interference.

“In the State of Colorado, the serious decision to start or end a pregnancy with medical assistance will remain between a person, their doctor and their faith,” he said.

“No matter what the Supreme Court does in the future, people in Colorado will be able to choose when and if they have children,” Polis said at a bill signing ceremony at his mansion in downtown Denver.

The Colorado legislature approved the bill last month with Republicans spending hours arguing against the bill.

The bill was debated in the House for 24 consecutive hours in what was one of the longest debates in the legislature’s history.

With this new development, abortion in Colorado is currently legal at all stages of pregnancy.

It is one of seven states of the US without any term restrictions as to when a pregnancy can be terminated.

In a recent national poll by the Pew Research Centre, 59 per cent of adults said that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.

“A vast majority of women support their own right to an abortion,” Richardson, a policy advisor said.

He added that the voices of the current religious extremists against the stated desires of America’s founding fathers, who wanted a separation of church and state are succeeding in pulling America back into the stone ages.

A prison inmate testified Friday that Colorado rancher Patrick Frazee, who is accused of beating his fiancee to death with a baseball bat, asked the inmate multiple times to kill the key witness in Frazee’s murder trial.

Prosecutors say Frazee killed Kelsey Berreth on Thanksgiving Day 2018, then burned her body at his ranch. Frazee’s on-again-off-again girlfriend, Krystal Lee, testified that her lover asked her to help clean up the murder scene.

Inmate Jacob Bentley testified that Frazee asked him multiple times to kill Lee, her relatives, the lead investigator in the case, Gregg Slater, and others while the two were housed near each other in jail. Slater testified that Bentley provided notes with the requests and details about finding Lee that appeared to be in Frazee’s handwriting.

Frazee’s lawyer, Adam Steigerwald, questioned Bentley’s credibility. He said Bentley was expected to testify in another case that a defendant also had asked him to kill a witness.

Bentley, who said he told Frazee he was part of a prison gang, asserted that he was not promised anything in exchange for his testimony. However, prosecutor Beth Reed said Bentley had asked for cases against him to be resolved in one county.

Frazee faces charges of first-degree murder, tampering with a deceased body and solicitation, to all of which he’s pleaded not guilty. Lee pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and agreed to testify against Frazee.

Berreth, a 29-year-old flight instructor, was last seen shopping with the couple’s daughter last Thanksgiving.

The defense has focused on the lack of a body, motive and murder weapon. They also point out that surveillance video showing Frazee entering and leaving Berreth’s home on the day that prosecutors say she was killed has him wearing the same clothes without any bloodstains.

Lee, who has known Frazee for over a decade, acknowledged taking Berreth’s cellphone with her to Idaho at Frazee’s request to try to deceive investigators about Berreth’s whereabouts.

Frazee’s lawyers stressed that she only spoke about what happened after reaching a deal and questioned her credibility because she initially told authorities she did not know who Berreth was.

A partial human tooth was found on Frazee’s property where Lee says she watched him burn a plastic tote containing Berreth’s body. There was not enough DNA to determine whom the tooth belonged to.

An expert testified that the burned plastic residue found next to a spot of oily dirt was consistent with a body being burned but acknowledged that motor oil could have also left a similar stain.

Defense attorneys said no DNA evidence tied to Lee was found at Berreth’s home. Colorado Bureau of Investigation analyst Caitlin Rogers said that did not surprise her because the bleach that Lee said she used to clean up destroys DNA.

While prosecutors have not given a motive, Berreth’s parents argue in a wrongful-death lawsuit that they believe Frazee wanted full custody of the couple’s daughter. She now lives with them.

Frazee declined to testify, and his lawyers didn’t call any witnesses of their own. Closing arguments in the case are scheduled for Monday.

A Colorado woman charged with indecent exposure for playing Frisbee topless has been awarded a $50,000 settlement — the first damage settlement for a woman in the U.S wrongfully charged with being topless, local media reports.

Effie Krokos, a 20-year-old student, says the situation began on Sept. 26 when she was playing Frisbee in her fiance’s front yard in the 1100 block of Second Street Southeast in Loveland, Colo., while topless.

She allegedly got overheated and took off her shirt without thinking.

“I was like, ‘Oh it’s hot, he’s shirtless, why not just go for it?’” said Krokos.

Several hours later, unbeknownst to the future husband and wife — an upset neighbor reportedly called police on Krokos.

When an officer arrived, Krokos said she tried explaining a February Court of Appeals ruling that made it legal for a woman to be topless anywhere a man can be topless, but the officer, Greg Harris, reportedly dismissed her pleas and issued a summons for indecent exposure, according to CBS 4 Denver.

“I was really upset at the whole situation because I didn’t do anything wrong,” Krokos told the Loveland Reporter-Herald. “I was just playing Frisbee in my own yard with my fiance.”

The appeals ruling determined that Fort Collins’ nudity ordinance, which had prohibited women from showing their breasts — was in violation of the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

A woman in Colorado was arrested Tuesday in connection with the death of a newborn girl whose body was discovered in a garbage bag weighed down with rocks in a reservoir more than two decades ago.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office announced that 42-year-old Jennifer Katalinich of Erie, also known as Jennifer Tjornehoj, was arrested on charges of first- and second-degree murder.

“This case serves as a great reminder that [the sheriff’s office] is determined to solve all cases despite the amount of time that passes after the commission of the crime,” Larimer County Sheriff Justin Smith said at a news conference. “It often takes just one citizen to come forward with information to spark new life into a cold case.”

The “Baby Faith” case began on Aug. 24, 1996, after two 11-year-old boys discovered the body of a newborn girl with her umbilical cord still attached in the Horsetooth Reservoir, located just outside of Fort Collins.

A county coroner determined at the time the child died of asphyxiation, and the unidentified girl was later named “Baby Faith.”

“Investigators established this case was not related to a similar case in Pueblo known as the ‘Baby Hope’ case,” police said in a press release. “Investigators aggressively pursued all leads in the coming months, but eventually all leads were exhausted, and the case was declared cold.”

A Colorado woman was arrested after cops said she tried to shoot her neighbor with a crossbow.

Court papers say that when the neighbor opened the door to her apartment in Longmont, Colo., at 3 a.m. Friday, her downstairs neighbor Katherine Cherry “stuck a black crossbow through the door and fired an arrow at her.” KUSA-TV reports.

The document says the arrow flew down the hallway after grazing the neighbor, according to the station.

It states further that the woman said she “felt in fear of her life when she saw the crossbow,” the station reported.

The neighbor told police she called 911 after she swung a hammer at Cherry, whom she thought “was crazy,” according to KUSA.

The woman told police Cherry had banged on her door 90 minutes earlier, yelling about wanting her son back and calling out for a person named “Russell,” the station reported.

Longmont police found the 60-year-old Cherry in her apartment and charged her with assault and menacing.

The Police in Colorado say that they pulled over a driver this week who attempted to hide the fact that he had a broken tail light by placing a red sports drink in its place.

“While we appreciate the ingenuity of this tail light, this is not a permanent solution,” the Longmont Police Department said in a post on Facebook. “Working tail lights prevent accidents.”

Authorities told KMGH-TV that the driver was on his way to get the light fixed when he was pulled over in Longmont, about 30 miles north of Denver.

The station reported that all on-road vehicles in Colorado must display red or amber lights in the rear of their vehicles that are visible at least 100 feet away in the sunlight.

KMGH-TV reported that the driver was let go without a ticket and later was spotted at a garage getting the light replaced.

“If your tail lights are broken, please get them repaired,” the department said.
