In a statement released by its spokesperson, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu assured residents that Lagos State is safe and that they should not panic on account of the viral post or the recent security infringement in Ajah where AVM Sikiru Smith (rtd) was abducted on 27th September 2021.

Ajisebutu said the assurance became imperative in view of the “unnecessary” alarm and concerns being raised on social media about isolated security infractions in some parts of the state.

The statement in part reads “In view of the foregoing, the Commissioner of Police wishes to state that the isolated incidents notwithstanding, Lagos State is, and will remain one of the safest states in Nigeria. To allay the fear of the people, therefore, the Command has restrategized to provide watertight security for all law-abiding residents of the State. The Commissioner of Police has given standing orders to all field Commanders, tactical unit Commanders, other uniformed and plain-clothed police officers to intensify visibility Policing, vehicular patrol as well as an intelligence-driven raid of all flashpoints/blackspots and identified criminal hideouts to smoke out men of the underworld hibernating in them. The CP also wishes to state that the Police Command is conscious of its statutory duties of protecting lives and property among other duties, and would not for any reason or at any time abdicate these important duties. While still pleading with members of the public to believe in police’s ability to protect them at all times, the Commissioner of Police once again solicits the support of the public, sister agencies and other strategic partners by giving prompt but actionable intelligence that would further decimate criminal elements and their nefarious activities in the state”

The three men were arrested by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team at the Ogombo police division in Lagos state. They asked for N500 million from their victim.

Confirming their arrest, the spokesperson of the state police command, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the victim has been rescued and reunited with her parents.

He said the three suspects have been taken to the State CID Panti for further investigation on the order of the CP, Hakeem Odumosu.

He added that further investigation is ongoing to arrest other members of the kidnap gang. He mentioned that more details will be given regarding the arrest later.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, with a view to improving security in Lagos, on Wednesday, November 25, parleyed the Inspectors and rank and file cadres of the command on improved service delivery

According to a statement released by the state police command spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, Odumosu charged the officers to brace up and discharge their duties without fear or favour and sentiments as the laws are explicit on the duties of the police.

The parley was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations,  DCP Mohammed Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Etim  Oqua, ACP Department of Operations, ACP Dotun Odubona, ACP Wale Ajao, second-in-command to Commander Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State and staff officers from the Command Headquarters Ikeja, but with the exception of the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers as the meeting was basically father-to-son talk.

The policemen appreciated the Commissioner of Police for his fatherly roles and moves to improve their general welfare and safety in order to discharge their duties as required. They, however, promised to do the needful and fortify security across the state which will be devoid of corruption, incivility and unprofessional vices.

The Commissioner of Police, who had earlier been denied access at the Muritala Mohammed Airport tollgate in Ikeja by End SARS protesters, ran into a similar barricade at NNPC junction, Okota, where the protesters insisted that CP Hakeem Odumosu and team alight from their official cars and trek that long-distance despite series of explanations and appeals on the Command’s mission in the area.

A statement signed by Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said, “The Commissioner of Police, like every other officer in Lagos State, who has been professional in tolerating and managing several harassments, intimidations and provocations from the protesters, obliged and trekked for peace to reign.”

The statement adds that the visit to the assaulted grandma, who is the mother of Oxlade’s manager, Ojah Bee, was to “sympathise and apologise to her and her family members and assure them that the arrested police officer, SP Tunji  Ajakaiye, second-in-command at the disbanded Anti Kidnapping Unit, Surulere, who assaulted the grandma has been queried and will face the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) for appropriate punishment.”

In a statement released on Friday, October 9, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the incident was not in any way connected to the ongoing End SARS protest in the state.

The statement in part reads “At about 9.21 pm of Thursday, 8th October 2020, one Joy Eze living at Owonikoko Street, Idiagbon, College Road, Ogba, Lagos, was shot at the mouth by a policeman, who was later identified to be one Sergeant Eze Aiwansoba attached to the Special Protection Unit, Base 16, Ikeja, Lagos State, after a fierce argument between the duo who are in a relationship. As at the time of the incident, the identity of the policeman was unknown until the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, ordered the Divisional Police Officer, Ikeja, to trace the whereabouts of the victim, ascertain her health condition and get more information on the incident and identify the policeman for further necessary actions. Based on the preliminary investigation, the said police sergeant was off duty and not issued with a police rifle or arms as at the time of the incident, hence the Police’s concern on the ownership and/or possession of the arms he used in perpetrating the act. The Commissioner of Police has ordered that the fleeing policeman, who is attached to another police formation within the state, be arrested by all means and made to face the consequences of his criminal act. While the CP condemns the act, the command will not in any way leave any stone unturned in getting justice for the victim and sustain the ethics and Standard Operating Procedure of the Nigeria Police Force; and protect the fundamental human rights of all and sundry across the state. Similarly, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has appealed to all Lagosians especially protesters across the state, to maintain law and order while they embark on peaceful protests as the police will do everything possible not to infringe on their rights.”

A statement released by Bala Elkana, spokesperson of the state police command, says two weeks ago, the Commissioner for Police in the state, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc, ordered the deployment of Special forces from the Command’s tactical units to Ikorodu and environs to tackle the menace of cultism and gang violence. Rival cult groups, especially in the Ikorodu area, have in the last few weeks, engaged themselves in a supremacy battle with resultant death from both sides.

Bala said a successful operation by the team has led to the arrest of 185 notorious cultists and the recovery of 8 locally made pistols and other dangerous weapons from them.

He said the suspects arrested confessed to belonging to Eiye, Aiye, KK, Buccaneers, Vikings confraternities, among other cult groups. According to his statement. one Gbadamosi Mohammed, 30, suspected to be among the cultists who killed one Madariola Sunday at Ibeshe on May 21, was among the suspects arrested. Also arrested are Onibudo Afeex ‘m’, Habeeb Isa ‘m’, Felix Igwoke ‘m’, Taiwo Iyanu ‘m’ at Femi Taiwo Street, Ikorodu. Bala said they were arrested in an uncompleted building holding cult meeting.

The spokesperson added that 25-year-old Adeoye Daya said to be a hitman of Aiye confraternity was arrested at Ikorodu garage with one locally made short gun and rounds of live cartridges. He added that one Shodeinde Tosin said to be a hitman of Eiye confraternity in Igbogbo was also arrested with a locally made short gun.

He said all the suspects will be charged to court soon
