The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced that the display of the fourth quarter preliminary register of voters (PVR) ongoing at the INEC Local Government offices nationwide will end on 21st August, 2022.

This was contained in  a statement issued via its official Facebook page on Thursday.

The exercise is coming on the heels of the conclusion of the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), which formally closed on July 31, 2022.

INEC had said at the conclusion of the voter registration that the commission would undertake a clean-up of the register to remove multiple registrants using the Automated Biometric identification System (ABIS) and display the register for public scrutiny.

According to INEC, display of the preliminary register of voters allows voters to check if they were duly registered to vote, which may warrant the need to contact the Electoral Officer (EO) to request for an amendment to a voter’s details as they appear in the PRV.

“The display of the PRV will provide the opportunity for claims and objections against the inclusion or omission of names in the register, check and verify whether their names, photographs and other details appear correctly in the PRV, file any complaint in relation to any necessary correction required of a name or details incorrectly entered in the PRV, file any complaint, claim or objection in relation to the names omitted or included in the PRV,” the commission said.

It reminded members of the public that the exercise was free.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has disclosed that over seven million Nigerians who carried out their voter pre-registration online could not complete the process at physical centres.

INEC revealed this as the continuous voter registration exercise (CVR) ended on Sunday.

Recall that the commission, in June 2021, commenced the CVR exercise via its online portal, where Nigerians provided their biodata and required documents, after which applicants would visit INEC designated centres to complete the process physically, with a biometric capturing.

According to a report released by the commission, 10,487,972 Nigerians carried out their pre-registration online.

The commission stated only 3,444,378 Nigerians representing 32.8 percent, completed the process at a physical centre.

The 7,043,594 persons accounted for over 67 percent of those who began their registration process online, but could not obtain a voter card, which implied that they will not be able to vote in the 2023 general elections.

Meanwhile, INEC said a total of 12,298,944 Nigerians completed their voter registration; 8,854,566 of which were persons who did their registration entirely at a physical centre.

Recall that INEC had fixed June 30 as the deadline for the CVR ahead of the 2023 elections, but extended it till July after a federal high court in Abuja stopped the commission from ending the voter registration.
