There was panic on Sunday night as another building collapsed on Adeleye Street, Lady Lark, Bariga area of Lagos State.

Two children died while three adults sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency confirmed the development, adding that rescue is ongoing at the scene of the incident

LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, in a situation report made available to journalists, said the agency has activated all its response plans.

Situation report: Collapsed building at Adeleye Street Ladylak, Bariga.

“The Agency activated its response to the above incident and upon arrival at the incident scene, discovered that the tank scaffolding of a two-story building collapsed on a bungalow beside it and affected two rooms.

“Unfortunately two children died from the impact. Three adult males sustained injuries and were taken to nearby hospitals. The Agency’s response team alongside Lagos State Fire and LASBCA are responders at the incident scene. Rescue operation ongoing,” he said.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, has said the agency, alongside officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency, will demolish a building in the Ebute Metta area of the state for failing integrity and structural tests.

Oke-Osanyintolu, in a statement on Sunday, described the building as illegal, adding that several stop-work orders had been issued on the building located on No 54, Jebba Street, Ebute Metta.

He noted that in the interest of public safety, the agency would pull down the structure to ground zero with immediate effect.

Oke-Osanyintolu said, “LASEMA and LABSCA have been forced to intervene in an illegal building site at No 54 Jebba Street, Ebute Metta. The construction has failed numerous integrity and structural tests and has been subjected to several ‘stop work’ orders which have been flouted severally.

In the interests of public safety and to forestall any disaster, the structure will be pulled down to ground zero by the agency with immediate effect.

Members of the public are to be assured of the commitment of the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwoolu to public safety, law and order. Further updates will follow.”

A two-storey building on Chris Igadi Street, in the Ago Palace Way area of Lagos State, collapsed on Saturday.

Our correspondent gathered that people residing in the building vacated the premises immediately after the building gave a sign it wanted to collapse.

The Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said no casualty was recorded during the incident, adding that the site of the collapsed structure had been handed over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

He said, “The agency responded to the collapsed two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/ AP filling station, around 3am this morning. On arrival, information gathered from the residents revealed that the building gave signs several hours before it collapsed. Fortunately, nobody was trapped as all the occupants evacuated the area when the signs began two hours before the collapse. A headcount of occupants was carried out to ensure no occupants is missing and the remains of the building were cordoned off. The operation was concluded around 5:23 am. The site will be handed over to LABSCA and Ministry of Physical Planning for further investigation.”

One passenger dead as a bus and a highlander Jeep collided with a moving commuter train at PWD inward Oshodi area of Lagos State.

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu  confirmed the incident on Monday.

According to him, the bus with six passengers suddenly veered onto the tracks and collided with the train.

“The agency received distress calls at 8.12 am on the above. Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that a passenger motor GGE 972 GE with six passengers had veered onto the train tracks while crossing the rail at PWD inward Oshodi and subsequently collided with a scheduled commuter train.

“The bus was then dragged along for a stretch of the journey before the train managed to come to a complete halt,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.

The DG of LASEMA confirmed that one passenger has lost his life and been placed in the hospital morgue while the other is still undergoing treatment.

The Agency was able to successfully extricate the passengers while the wreckage of the bus has been removed to allow the free flow of commuter traffic.

Members of the public, especially drivers of commuter buses are reminded to obey traffic regulations to prevent injuries and transport delays.

LASEMA also revealed that a third vehicle, a highlander Jeep was also involved in the collision and its passengers (two adult males) sustained serious injuries before being transported to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.

A truck ferrying Automotive Gas Oil, also known as diesel, has crashed in the Apapa area of Lagos State after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to brakes failed while in transit.

Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed this in a statement on Thursday, stated that no deaths or injuries were recorded in the incident.

He added that emergency responders, including the LASEMA response team and officials of the state fire service, were on ground to salvage the situation.

“Distress calls were received at 12.05 am concerning the above incident and upon arrival at the above-mentioned scene, it was confirmed that a truck with an unknown registration number loaded with AGO had fallen due to suspected brake failure,” the LASEMA statement said.

“This resulted in the obstruction of free vehicular activities along the corridor.

“A multi-stakeholder team comprising Agency responders, LRU Firefighters, Lagos State Fire Service, LASTMA, LSNC, and the Nigerian Police worked together to evacuate the impediment off the road.

“The Agency heavy-duty equipment (Super metro) was used for Recovery, while the area has been blanketed to prevent any secondary incident. The operation concluded with no loss of life or injury,” he said.
