At least 170 Nigerians stranded in the United Arab Emirates, UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic have returned home.

Their arrival was disclosed in a series of tweet by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.

Announcing their arrival via a tweet, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) said the evacuees arrived this evening at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos from the United Arab Emirates, today Friday, 14th of August, 2020.

The agency also said all returnees tested negative to coronavirus and would now embark on the 14-day self-isolation as recommended by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

The tweet read:  “170 stranded Nigerians on Fly Dubai paid for by the UAE govt this evening arrived the MMIA Lagos from the United Arab Emirates, today Friday, 14th of August, 2020”.

“The UAE Government offered three free flights to Nigerians in Dubai whose documentation expired since March 1st and have been given till August 17 to leave the country”.

“All evacuees tested Negative to #COVID-19 and are now on a 14-day SELF-ISOLATION as mandated by @NCDCgov, @Fmohnigeria, & Presidential Task Force on #COVID-19.”

No fewer than 94 Nigerian girls stranded in Lebanon due to the coronavirus pandemic have arrived at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM announced this on its official Twitter handle @nidcom_gov on Wednesday.

The returnees, who tested negative for Covid-19 before departure, are expected to self-isolate for 14 days according to the protocol of the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.

They are also expected to take another Covid-19 test before rejoining society.

“94 out of 150 Stranded Nigerian Girls arrive Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos from Lebanon today Wednesday, 12th of August, 2020.

“They have all proceeded on a 14 day SELF ISOLATION as mandated by @NCDCgov and PTF on #Covid_19,” it tweeted.

Another batch of 292 stranded Nigerians has arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday from UAE, bringing the total evacuation to 2, 933.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NiDCOM disclosed this on its official Twitter handle Twitte@nidcom_gov on Wednesday.

The agency said the evacuees returned to Nigeria via an Emirate flight and they all tested negative to the COVID-19.

“@emirates flight with 292 Evacuees arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 1430HRS from the United Arab Emirates today, Wednesday, August 12, bringing the total number of evacuees from the UAE to 2,933.

“All evacuees tested Negative to #COVID-19 and will now proceed on a 14-day SELF-ISOLATION as mandated by Nigeria Center for Disease Control (@NCDCgov).”

The Federal Government has approved the ninth and last evacuation flight for Nigerians stranded in the United States due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

The Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Mr Benaoyagha Okoyen announced this in a statement dated on Monday, August 10, 2020, on behalf of the country’s missions in the U.S.

The flight is scheduled to convey the evacuees from New Jersey on August 20 to both Abuja and Lagos, according to the statement.

This would come after the seventh and eight evacuation flights scheduled for August 15 and August 19 respectively from Houston, Texas, to Lagos.

The government had so far evacuated 1,739 stranded Nigerian citizens in six special flights from the U.S. which is witnessing a second wave of coronavirus infections.
