The Lagos State Task Force on the Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has announced the sale of 44 vehicles seized from traffic offenders.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Chief Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, disclosed this in a public notice posted on Twitter.

The notice titled, ‘List Of Court-Forfeited (One-Way) Vehicles To Be Auctioned’ listed 44 vehicles of different brands and registration numbers.

“Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit (Task Force) wishes to inform interested members of the public, especially owners whose vehicles have been forfeited to the Lagos State Government that all necessary arrangement has been concluded with a ‘Court Order’ in accordance with the law for a ‘Public Auction’ of the vehicles which would hold at the Agency’s car park behind Shoprite, Alausa, Ikeja,  on Monday 23rd of November 2020.

“It is pertinent to state that the vehicles were forfeited by the Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile Court) for driving against traffic (One-Way), thereby contravening the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law 2018,” the tweet read.

A huge number of people in the Amuwo area of Lagos State have broken into a warehouse where scores of COVID-19 palliatives were stored.

There are videos going viral on social media on Thursday showing how people were packing the bags and cartons of palliatives out of the warehouse, which were ought to have been shared by government to cushion the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the economy.

Also,in one of the videos, there’s a van belonging to a joint Internal Security Operational platform, OP MESA, with people loading the vehicle with several of the palliative materials.

Reacting quickly to the incident, the state government has, however, deny reports making rounds, that the palliatives had been stored in there for months.

Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Sanwo-Olu,  in a tweet described the comments as ‘falsehood and inciting’.

“The government didn’t lock the food packs in. They’re in warehouse for distribution,” he said.

In his statement, he said the governor has just recently received the palliatives on September 22, less than a month ago.

Explaining further, Gboyega said that Governor Sanwo-Olu had used his personal and state resources to secure food palliatives for vulnerable Lagosians even before the contributions from the Coalition Against COVID (CA-COVID).

This is coming amid the chaos, series of destruction and looting that has occurred in many areas of the state.

Starting from August 27 ride-hailing operators in Lagos state will start paying a levy of N20 known as road improvement fund on each trip their drivers make in a day.

The agreement was reached on Friday, August 14, after a three-hour meeting between the Lagos state government and e-hailing ride operators.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor Gboyega Akosile and titled ‘Lagos govt, e-hailing operators agree on new regulations’, the Lagos state government stated that the new regulations were not initiated by the government to extort the operators and drivers in the business but to regularise the ride-hailing operations in line with security measures.

The statement added “This implies that each e-hailing firm will now pay N8m per 1,000 cars fresh licencing and renewal, instead of N10m initially announced. We also discussed the issue of service tax, which was initially defined as a 10 per cent charge. We have come to a resolution that the levy will become a flat fee of N20 per trip. We no longer call it service tax; we now call it Road Improvement Fund, which will be levied per trip”
