Joe Biden’s administration has issued a regional emergency declaration for 17 states and Washington, D.C., to keep fuel supply lines open after a cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline’s infrastructure on Friday, May 7.

Friday night’s cyberattack is “the most significant, successful attack on energy infrastructure” known to have occurred in the U.S., according to Politico.

Colonial Pipeline carries 45% of fuel supplies in the eastern U.S. Some 5,500 miles of the pipeline has been shut down in response to the attack.

While gasoline and diesel prices aren’t expected to be impacted if pipeline operations resume in the next few days, fuel suppliers are becoming “increasingly nervous” about possible shortages, Bloomberg reports.

Colonial said in a statement Sunday while its main fuel lines remained offline, some smaller lines between terminals and delivery points were now operational.

He said “We will bring our full system back online only when we believe it is safe to do so and in full compliance with the approval of all federal regulations”

The US said it’s “working with” fuel pipeline operator Colonial Pipeline to try and restart operations as soon as possible.

The regional emergency declaration by the Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is so that fuel supply lines can be kept open.

The emergency declaration covers Alabama, Arkansas, D.C., Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.

The DoT agency said in a statement the declaration “addresses the emergency conditions creating a need for immediate transportation of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other refined petroleum products and provides necessary relief.”

The attack is a significant breach of critical infrastructure and comes on the heels of multiple other major cyberattacks on both U.S. companies and the federal government in recent months by foreign actors.

Georgia has confirmed Democratic President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of the Nov 3 election in the state after completing a hand audit of ballots on Thursday, November 19, Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said

The audit, launched after unofficial results showed Biden leading Republican President Donald Trump by about 14,000 out of more than 5 million votes cast, ended with Biden winning by 12,284, according to data from Raffensperger’s office.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, said in a statement “Georgia’s historic first statewide audit reaffirmed that the state’s new secure paper ballot voting system accurately counted and reported results. This is a credit to the hard work of our county and local elections officials who moved quickly to undertake and complete such a momentous task in a short period of time”

The confirmation makes Biden the first Democratic presidential candidate to win the southern US state in almost three decades, since Bill Clinton in 1992.

A Georgia woman was arrested after police say she was caught on camera attacking an Uber driver — by biting him and trying to damage his car.

Tasheena Campbell, 26, was taken into custody Aug. 20 — days after the incident in which she allegedly attacked driver Yasser Hadi in midtown Atlanta on Aug. 18.

A video uploaded to Twitter of the attacks begins with a woman — identified by WAGA as Campbell — sitting on the hood of a car, breaking off a windshield wiper. Bystanders and Hadi encourage her to stop, before the woman throws a punch at Hadi.

The woman hops off the car and enters the vehicle through the driver-side door while Hadi tries to stop her. “Get out my car!” he shouts, as he pulls the woman out to the ground. The woman tries punching the Uber driver — before biting him, prompting him to scream.

It’s unclear what sparked the altercation. Hadi said Campbell appeared out of nowhere and randomly attacked him.

“She’s acting weird, she’s acting wild, and she’s on the car hitting it, telling me I need to die, to kill me,” Hadi told WAGA of the encounter. “The pain, I said, “God, just let her take my flesh, I don’t care. I want her to go away from me.”

The Uber driver said the situation is “horrible.”

“She’s hit me in my job, my health and my financial pocket money, it’s hard,” said Hadi, noting he doesn’t have insurance. “I’m in a bad situation. I wish people see this and help.”

Campbell was arrested and charged with battery and criminal trespass, according to online records from the Fulton County Jail. She was still in custody as of Thursday.

A white man has confronted a black Georgia state lawmaker in front of reporters. This happened on Saturday as he denied her accusation that he told her to “go back where you came from” during an argument in a supermarket checkout lane a day earlier.

Eric Sparkes openly admitted that he cursed at state Rep. Erica Thomas for taking too many items into an express checkout lane. However, denied making the racially charged comment after showing up in the middle of a television news interview featuring Thomas outside the Atlanta-area Publix store where the confrontation occurred.

“Did I say that? Is it on video?” Sparkes asked Thomas in front of reporters, before admitting to calling her lazy.

“That’s all you said to me?” Thomas asked. “OK, because that makes you look better because everybody’s after you now.”

Sparkes later told WSB-TV he is a Democrat of Cuban descent and that Thomas’s allegations are politically motivated. Thomas said she will notify the police and will seek store video of the incident.

In a statement, Publix supermarket said it is “cooperating with local law enforcement as they look into the matter.”

In a tearful video Thomas posted to Facebook, she said she was with her young daughter in the market Friday and admitted to having more than 10 items in the supermarket’s express lane.

“I decided to go live because I’m very upset because people are getting really out of control with this, with this white privileg stuff,” she said. “I’m at the grocery and I’m in … the aisle that says ’10 Items or Less.’ Yes, I have 15 items, but I’m nine months pregnant and I can’t stand up for long. And this white man comes up to me and says, ‘You lazy son of a b—h… You need to go back where you came from.'”

The incident came days after United States President Donald Trump tweeted that four minority congresswomen should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places” they came from and then “come back and show us how it is done.”

A 61-year-old man lost his life and a young boy — his grandson — was wounded after a freight train terribly crashed into his car on Thursday afternoon at a railroad crossing in Georgia, dragging the vehicle for a good half-mile, police said.

According to Reynolds Police Chief Lonnie Holder, Melvin Turner was trying to drive across the train tracks with his grandson at Crest Hill Road as the Norfolk Southern train badly hit the car.

Holder said that he got a call of the train accident from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department about 4:24 p.m.– the first such episode of its kind on Crest Hill Road, he told WMAZ-TV.

Mayor Butch Turner told the station the car was pushed for about half a mile.

Turner was pronounced dead on the scene by coroner Gary Lowe, and the 11-year-old was taken to a hospital in Macon, Fox 24 reported.

Details of his condition are yet to be released.

Customs and Border Protection agents in Georgia seized two Giant African Snails, a species that was once eradicated in the United States, from the luggage of someone traveling back from Nigeria.

Candie and Chipper, two members of the “Beagle Brigade”, were on patrol at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Thursday when they were put on notice to CBP’s Agricultural Specialists to an individual’s bag at the international arrival baggage claim area, the agency said in a press release.

After going through the suitcase, agents found two of the giant snails, alive, and several illegal fruits and vegetables that the Beagles also alerted agents to.

The Giant African Snail was first found in the United States in Florida in the 1960s and took approximately 10 years and $1 million to eradicate it, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). It was later reintroduced into Florida and Hawaii in 2011.

The snail, which can grow up to eight inches long, is considered “one of the most damaging snails in the world” as it feeds on at least 500 different types of plants and can cause structural damage to stucco and plaster buildings.

It also can be harmful to humans because it carries a parasitic nematode which can cause meningitis. According to the USDA, Giant African Snails are difficult to eradicate because they reproduce quickly, producing around 1,200 eggs in a year.

“CBP is on the frontline 24/7, searching for anything entering our country that could potentially harm our citizens,” Lee Deloatch Atlanta CBP Acting Area Port Director said in a press release.

“Our beagles sniffing out these snails highlights how valuable our canine members are to protecting the U.S.”

The snails were turned over to the USDA for further evaluation and the prohibited food was destroyed.

The traveler was not fined or charged in the incident. It was not immediately clear if the snails were intentionally brought in to the United States or if they managed to find their own way into the suitcase.
