Makinde who said this in reaction to the invasion of Igangan by men of the Nigeria Customs Service NCS), disclosed that he will hold on to the firearm seized during the invasion until the federal government gives him an audience to address the issue.

It was reported earlier that the operation led to the death of the commandant of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, in the area and two other persons who repelled the invasion thinking the assailants were herdsmen.

He said “On security, most of the data in the past months shows that things are now improving. The Igangan incident, some days ago, was only falsified by some people who were saying that Fulani herdsmen had invaded Igangan again. The truth is actually about the NCS and smugglers. They know each other. Customs officials were accused to have entered Igangan, which is not a border town. But we are working with federal authorities and they have arrested most of them. The gun that was collected is still with us. I said I won’t release it until I get the attention of the federal authorities. In the Constitution of Nigeria, Oyo State is a federating unit. We are not saying federal agencies should not carry out their operations here. But they must tell us; they must inform us. They may not disclose the details of the operation to us, but we must know about it. If we had known about the operation, we would have pre-informed the security detail in the town and those who died could have been alive. The Amotekun coordinator that died in Igboora would have still been alive today. How can you go operating in an unidentified vehicle in a town where the security tactics have been heightened? As they wanted to enter the town, they were confronted because we have heightened security in all of those places. So, we will keep appealing to them and to our people that false information won’t help anybody. Nobody will profit politically from the security issues we are faced with. It is our collective responsibility. The people will play their part and the government will play its own part. We said each local government should set up a security committee, which should include traditional rulers and voluntary people willing to police their areas”

The dissolution was announced during the weekly Council meeting at the Executive Council Chamber, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan on Tuesday, June 29.

This development was also confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Taiwo Adisa. He promised to give full details of the affected political appointees.

Recounting how he contested in governorship elections in 2007, 2011 and 2015 respectively and lost while speaking at the pan-Yoruba Congress at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Makinde further stated that he has no political father. 

He said “If the people of Oyo State ask me to leave the office as governor today, I won’t hesitate to leave the office because I go to office daily with my bag. Let me tell you here today. I don’t have a political father. It was God who made me governor and not human being. I fear only God and not any human. No matter how powerful a man is, I cannot fear him. I contested election in 2007, 2011 and 2015 but failed and when it is time for God to make me a governor, he made me. If the people of the state decide that they don’t want me again, I will only take my bag and leave because I don’t have a pin in the office”

The Oyo State Governor said this while speaking at the Oyo State Headquarters of the Nigeria Police Force, Eleyele, Ibadan.

Makinde said “I announced that the government has set up an initial N500m Victim Compensation Fund. I made the announcement last week and I want to say that the families of the policemen in Oyo State who were extrajudicially killed will be part of those to be compensated in the fund. And I also want to say that may the souls of the departed colleagues rest in peace. The Police are a very important part of our community. My prayer is that things will get better with our country, state, and Nigerian Police Force. Things will get better with Oyo State Police Command and it will get better with us as individuals. I can stand before you to say that not every member of the Police is bad. So, the government and the people of Oyo State are with you. If we work together to create a better society, you also are coming to enjoy that better society. We must all join hands to make our society better. It is time to put everything that has happened behind us and work towards nation-building. That I said I support the protest does not mean I am against you. I am for the protection of everyone’s rights including the right of the officers and men of the Nigerian Police Force. So, we need your cooperation to ensure that arsonists, anarchists are brought to book. And I am here to work with you to make the burden you are carrying very light.”
