The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) has raised concerns following the recent Abuja-Kaduna train attack, stating that such violent attacks are becoming too many and it questions their collective capacity to govern.

The governors said this in a statement on Wednesday while condemning the attack, describing the incident as a horror dream.

The statement was signed by NGf Chairman, and Governor of Ekiti State, Kayode Fayemi.

“The Kaduna -Abuja train attack on Monday night is a horror dream orchestrated by the wicked merchants of death that we must all wake up from to address.

“This is one attack too many. It must stop. First, as leaders, we owe the victims and their relations an apology as these unwarranted acts of violence are becoming too regular and they basically question our collective capacity to govern.”

They prayed that God would grant those that lost their lives eternal peace and wish those that were injured speedy recovery to resume their lives and put their heartless aggressors to shame.

The governors added that “if the intention of the murderers is to disrupt the peaceful coexistence of Nigerians, they will not succeed and when eventually total peace returns to the country, they will surely either be lifeless or excluded. I can assure you that this is an ugly phase in our national experience. It will certainly pass.”

They also expressed condolences to Nigerians, the Kaduna State government, and the people of Kaduna State.

They applauded the Nigerian security agents for their efforts in coming to the rescue of the victims of the attack.

They added that those behind the attack will certainly not take over Nigeria.

“Their violent demeanour will not result in anything positive instead it will confine them to an uncomfortable life in the jungle until the long arm of the law catches up with them.”

The NGF, however urged those in authority not to delay anymore in installing all necessary safeguards to forestall future acts of banditry on our rail tracks, roads, ports, and borders.

Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin has pardoned a man serving life in prison for sexually abusing his 6-year-old stepdaughter, saying the man was wrongly convicted.

News outlets report Bevin issued the pardon Friday, saying that Paul Donel Hurt was wrongly convicted of first-degree sexual abuse and sodomy in Louisville in 2001. Hurt’s accuser recanted her testimony at a hearing in 2015, but the conviction stood.

“Hindsight is never truly 20/20, but it appears to me, and to many others including the judge who sentenced him, that Paul Donel Hurt has been wrongly convicted and imprisoned for nearly 20 years,” Bevin wrote, according to the Courier-Journal.

Circuit Court Judge Audra Jean Eckerle ruled the recantation was inconsistent. She also expressed concern because the trial judge in the case had communicated with Hurt and the victim after retiring from the bench. Eckerle says the trial judge “altered” the victim’s memory and testimony “by using judicial coercion and intimidation.”

An appellate court later upheld that ruling.

Hurt was released from the Kentucky State Reformatory on Friday.

The paper reported that a spokesman for the Commonwealth’s Attorney Tom Wine said there were issues “raised during those post-conviction matters that make it easy  to understand why the governor would question the validity of the conviction.” An after-hours email from Fox News to Bevin’s office was not immediately returned.

Bevin conceded in his reelection bid against Democrat Andy Beshear earlier this month after the initial vote results were deemed too close to call. Bevin said during a news conference in Frankfort that he was conceding because he wanted “what is best for Kentucky.”

In July, a toddler fell to her death on a cruise ship according to the Puerto Rican authorities and her grandfather has been held responsible for her death.

He has been charged with negligent homicide in the death of the toddler.

The grandfather by the name of Salvatore “Sal” Anello was playing with his granddaughter on the 11th floor just close to the docked ship in Puerto Rico when Anello sat the girl on the open windows with the thoughts that it was shut, according to the attorney of the family.

Thus, prosecutors allege that he negligently exposed his granddaughter through one of the windows, according to a statement from the Puerto Rican Department of Justice.

However, the family’s attorney came to the granddad’s defence when they said, “Grandfather did not dangle baby from cruise ship window. This is not the Michael Jackson story.”

Unfortunately for the family, the San Juan judge “found cause for arrest against the accused, and imposed a bail of $80,000″, the governor’s office said.

After the accident, Chloe’s parents pointed fingers at the cruise line company, Royal Caribbean, blaming them for their daughter’s demise, saying point-blank that the windows should have been shut.

An attorney representing the family, Michael Winkleman, said that the “criminal charges are pouring salt on the open wounds of this grieving family,” in a civil suit against the cruise line company.

“Clearly this was a tragic accident and the family’s singular goal remains for something like this to never happen again,” Winkleman said in a statement.

This morning we reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had re-arraigned former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose for alleged money laundering before a new judge.

We can now confirm that the court granted his application to travel abroad for treatment as he said he was sick. It followed the re-assignment of the case to Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke after the prosecution expressed loss of confidence in Justice Mojisola Olatoregun, who was previously handling it.

Fayose was first arraigned last October 22 on an 11-count charge of receiving and keeping N1.2billion and $5million stolen funds from the office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) contrary to the Money Laundering Act.

Fayose’s lawyer Ola Olanipekun (SAN) pleaded with the judge to enable the former governor travel abroad for medical treatment. Justice Aneke granted the application and ordered that Fayose must return his international passport to the court on or before September 16.

The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Emir of Kano, Mallam Muhammad Sanusi II, has said that Nigeria is on the verge of bankruptcy as fuel and electricity subsidies, as well as debt servicing, continue to eat into government revenue .

Emir Sanusi said this while delivering his address at the ongoing third National Treasury Workshop, organised by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation in Kano .

He said, “In 2011 when I was CBN governor, Nigeria made $16bn from petroleum sales, and we spent $ 8bn importing petroleum and spent another $8.2bn subsidising the product…and I asked , ‘Is this sustainable? The country is bankrupt and we are heading to bankruptcy. What happens is that the Federal Government do pay petroleum subsidy, pays electricity tariff subsidy, and if there is a rise in interest rates, the Federal Government pays. What is more life – threatening than the subsidy that we have to sacrifice education, health sector and infrastructure for us to have cheap petroleum? If truly President Buhari is fighting poverty, he should remove the risk on the national financial sector and stop the subsidy regime , which is fraudulent.”

One of the things the new Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is tackling head on is the traffic issue in the state.

It will be recalled that Governor Sanwo-Olu signed an executive bill on traffic, waste management, and environment and this is a clear indication that he is not taking it likely when it comes to traffic and lawlessness in Lagos.

Just last week, the Lagos State Taskforce forfeit cars that passed through the one-way in Ikeja, citing paragraph 65 of the Lagos State Traffic Code, those who are caught will have to forfeit their cars to the Lagos State Government and may likely be jailed for one year according to what the law says.

Below are the Lagos State Traffic offense and the fines.

Veteran Nigeria rapper, Eedris Abdulkafreem has sent a farewell message to the outgoing governor of Lagos state, His Excellency Akinwunmi Ambode.

Eedris released a song accompanied with a lengthy farewell message on social media.

He wrote “Akinwunmi Ambode who came into office on May 29, 2015, is going to leave a very big pair of shoes that will be hard to fill in the Alausa government house when he eventually hands over the reins of power to Babajide Sanwo Olu on the 29th of this month of May 2019, after 4 years of uncommon achievements and meritorious service’. It’s note worthy to remark at this juncture that most Lagosians including myself felt cheated when Ambode was denied a second term ticket by his party for some filmsy excuses bordering on his alleged “party apathy” or something akin to that!

For a governor who achieved so much in such a short time to be dropped like that without recourse to the true feelings of Lagosians as against the feelings of a few party faithfuls smacks of negligence and nonchalant attitude on the part of the state party hierarchy and machinery! This is my personal view of the matter which of course corresponds with the feelings of most Lagosians I have had the privilege to speak with on this matter. Personally, I am going to miss Akinwunmi Ambode! I am going to miss his unbiased and wide range developmental strides. I am going to miss his good naturedness.

I am going to miss his undiluted and sincere love for the creative arts! I am going to miss all his well laid plans of action for the emerging Lagos mega City. I am going to miss his love for the State and all Lagosians. I’ll definitely miss triple A for who he is! No Lagosian worth his Salt will be uncharitable enough to deny the positive impact of Ambode’s four years tenure, and no one living and working in the state will deny not ever feeling the positive energy and charisma of his administration!

No human being is infallible, so Ambode has his own short comings too. But as a leader, I will always hail and appreciate him because he undoubtedly performed marvellously well. I hope and pray that his tomorrow will be better than his today. And for his detractors, I can only say that time alone will be the judge! As a social crusader, activist and a performing artiste, I pray that we have an Ambode in Aso Rock soon so that our nation Nigeria can attain the height destined for it!

With people like Ambode in the helm of affairs, the “jaga jagadness” of Nigeria can be overturned and cured for the betterment of our society and the entire citizenry. More blessings, honor, Power and grace my amiable governor Akinwunmi Ambode as you embark on the next phase of your illustrious life after May 29, 2019!

As I say farewell in this open missive to you Sir, I’ll be releasing a track I just recorded with same title (FAREWELL TO AMBODE) in commemoration of your unforgettable tenure as Lagos state governor. The single is my own token to Your Excellency for a wonderful job well done and is slated to hit the air in a couple of days! God bless you and yours our dear amiable Triple A…

With excess amount of Love from Eedris Abdulkareem..”
