Kane left the Khalifa International Stadium on Monday with a strapping to his ankle after the 6-2 win over Iran but took part in a light training session on Tuesday.

Gareth Southgate’s side faces the Americans on Friday knowing that a victory would guarantee them a place in the knockout stage.

Kane, the top scorer at the last World Cup in Russia, has a history of ankle injuries.

The England captain was set to switch to Manchester City in a massive deal worth £150m, but the Spurs striker has drawn a line on his future and will continue with Tottenham.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, August 25, the 28-year-old confirmed that he will remain in north London this season by writing: ‘It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks. I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100% focused on helping the team achieve success. #COYS.’

The 28-year-old was made Pep Guardiola’s only target to replace club-record goalscorer Sergio Aguero after he joined Barcelona. But Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy, has rejected all bids for the England captain.

Sources close to the England captain insist he will continue to give everything to Spurs, despite feeling that the club have not matched his ambitions.

Kane’s camp claim it was agreed he would be permitted to leave if Spurs didn’t win a trophy or qualify for the Champions League last season. The England captain still has his heart set on a transfer to Manchester City before the August 31 deadline.

However, Kane, 28, wants to regain the trust and faith of Spurs supporters and already vowed to give 100 per cent if he is called upon.

According to Sportsmail, Kane was dropped for the trip to Portugal for Wednesday’s Europa Conference League play-off tie against Pacos de Ferreira.

Head coach Nuno Espirito Santo decided to leave him behind so he can continue working on his fitness ahead of Sunday’s trip to Wolves.

Sources close to Kane claim that during a meeting at the start of last season, Levy agreed to let the striker leave if Spurs failed to qualify for the Champions League or win silverware.

During the summit, it is said Kane was told by the chairman that Spurs, then coached by Jose Mourinho, would compete for trophies and for the top four.

The Kane camp believe there has been communication between Spurs and City over the past year, which is why he expected to join the champions this summer.

City’s latest offer is worth £125m, though Spurs’ minimum valuation is £150m.

The England captain has been the subject of intense scrutiny after failing to report back to Spurs for pre-season following his post-Euro 2020 break, with manager Nuno Espirito Santo revealing earlier this week that he had not even spoken to Kane since he was employed as Coach.

Kane revealed his hurt at Spurs fans who have criticised their talisman’s perceived poor behaviour in an effort to make his transfer to City happen, saying that for almost a decade supporters at White Hart Lane have ‘shown me total love and support.

‘That’s why it hurts to read some of the comments that have been made this week, questioning my professionalism,’ Kane said, adding that he ‘wouldn’t do anything to jeopardise the relationship I have with the fans.’

The statement by Kane comes after City boss Pep Guardiola talked about his desire to sign Kane publicly on Friday.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has no intention of selling Kane – who still has three years left on his Spurs contract – for less than £150million, meaning City would have to break the British transfer record again just after signing Jack Grealish for £100m.

Guardiola said “If Tottenham doesn’t want to negotiate, it’s finished, If they are open then all the clubs in the world will want to sign him. It depends on Tottenham. Harry is an extraordinary striker. We are interested in him but if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, nothing more to say”

The England captain was supposed to be back for his first session after Euro 2020 on Monday, August 2, for a coronavirus test and a fitness assessment following his three-week holiday after Euro 2020 but didn’t turn up amid potential exit.

Kane has told Spurs he wants to leave after growing frustrated at Tottenham’s failure to win a major trophy since 2008, with their latest letdown coming in last season’s League Cup final defeat against Manchester City.

He believes he has a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Tottenham which allows him to move this year. But with three years left on his contract, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has no intention of selling his club’s prized asset, who is valued at around £150 million ($208 million).

City and Pep Guardiola see Kane as potentially completing their first XI but there is some doubt over whether they would be willing to pay the fee that Spurs want for a 28-year-old.

He suffered the injury in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Tuesday as his side defeated their rivals – Manchester City – by one goal to nil.

Kane’s injury could keep him out for the remainder of the 2018-19 season.

Tottenham Spurs have also confirmed that England midfielder Dele Alli, 23, has also fractured his left hand during the same match against Manchester City.

A club statement released by Tottenham said that Dele Alli will be assessed before Saturday’s home Premier League contest against Huddersfield Town.

Scoring 24 goals for Tottenham this season, Kane slipped as substituted right after he slipped as he tried to block Fabian Delph’s clearance in the second half of the game.

And after Tuesday’s match, Tottenham Spurs’ manager Mauricio Pochettino said: “It’s a worry for us.

“We are going to miss him – maybe for the rest of the season. We hope it is not a big issue but there is not too much time to recover.”

Fourth in the premier league, two points behind rivals, and with half a dozen matches remaining, Tottenham has merited being in the top four, and for four years in a row. They are ahead of north London rivals – Arsenal, who are fifth in the league.

In 37 appearances for England, Harry Kane has scored 22 goals who are set to face the Netherlands in the last four ties of the Nations League on 6 June.

The winners of that match will face either Portugal or Switzerland in the tournament’s final match three days later.
