Inter Milan midfielder, Christian Eriksen has returned to the club’s training ground for the first time since his cardiac arrest at the Euro 2020.

Eriksen was taken to a hospital in Denmark on June 12 after collapsing on the field during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener with Finland.

The former Tottenham Hotspur player spent a week in the hospital, where he had a successful operation to fit a heart-starting device called an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, or ICD.

The 29-year-old returned to Inter Milan’s Suning Training Centre in Appiano Gentile on Wednesday morning and the Italian club said he was in “excellent physical condition”.

In a statement, the club said: “Eriksen, who greeted managers, coaches, team-mates and all the staff present, is fine and in excellent mental and physical condition. Eriksen will follow the recovery programme proposed by the Danish doctors in Copenhagen, who will coordinate all the clinical follow-up and will always keep the Inter Milan medical staff informed.”

He is due to undergo further tests in Italy and is not expected to be back training for several months.

Inter Milan have appointed former Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi as their new coach to replace Antonio Conte, who guided the club to their first Serie A title in 11 years.

The Nerazzurri released a statement via the club’s official homepage confirming that the now-former Biancocelesti coach has signed a two-year deal with the club, which expires at the end of June 2023.

Simone Inzaghi began his coaching career with Lazio managing their various youth teams before being promoted to the first team in April 2016 when replacing Stefano Pioli who was sacked mid-season

The 45-year-old led Lazio to five straight finishes in the top seven in Serie A, which saw them played in a European cup competition every season he’s been in charge, including the Champions League this past season.

This is just the latest managerial change in Serie A since the end of the campaign, with Juventus, Napoli, and Fiorentina among those to have dismissed their coaches.

The two Milan giants and Atletico Madrid followed all six English Premier League clubs in pulling out of the European Super League on Wednesday, dealing a fatal blow to the project.

The withdrawals by Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham came just 48 hours after the league’s unveiling late on Sunday following a furious response from fans and officials.

The three Italian clubs involved, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan, admitted defeat and La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid also pulled out.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have yet to make any comment but the project in its current form is dead in the water.

AC Milan was one of the main drivers behind the plans, having missed out on the Champions League for the past seven seasons.

The seven-time European champions said the change was necessary due to the changing football landscape but admitted they “must be sensitive to the voice of those who love this wonderful sport”.

Italian champions Juventus said they remained “convinced of the soundness of the project’s sport, commercial and legal premises” but accepted it could not go ahead in its original form.

The Super League promised guaranteed entry for its founding clubs and billions of dollars in payments. Most of the clubs have huge debts and wage bills and suffered a sharp drop in revenues during the coronavirus pandemic.

But the project was vehemently opposed across the football spectrum, from fans to players, coaches, politicians and UEFA and FIFA, the European and world football bodies.

Italian club, Inter Milan have completed the signing of Ashley Young from Manchester United. The 34-year-old defender joined for £1.5million and signed a six-month deal with an option to extend with the Serie A club.

After he passed his medical, the Serie A side announced the deal on Twitter with a bizarre hashtag of #NotForEveryone.

The left-back, who signed for the Red Devils in 2011, said on Twitter: “To @ManUtd: you gave me the chance to play with legends, to win trophies, to work under the greatest manager in history and to be your captain. Thank you for letting me be part of your story for eight and a half years. To the United fans: every time I walked on the pitch wearing your shirt I gave you my all. Thank you for your support during the highs and the lows. I leave as one of you, see you again in an away end soon.

All the 20 Italian Serie A League teams have come out to write an open letter to fans, stating racism is a deep rooted problem that must be stamped out of Italian football if the sport is to grow.

Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku, Brescia’s Mario Balotelli, Napoli’s Koulibali and former Juventus player Moise Kean are among the elite group of black football players that have suffered racist chants and abuses in the past.

The letter, whose creation was driven by AC Milan, is addressed to ‘all those who love Italian football,’ and says ‘we have to publicly recognise that we have a serious problem with racism.’

The letter reads;

“An open letter to all those who love Italian football
We have to publicly recognise that we have a serious problem with racism. It’s a problem that we have not done enough to combat over the years. Images of players being racially abused in Italian football have been viewed and discussed all around the world this season and that shames us all. No individual should ever be subjected to racist abuse – inside or outside of football – and we can no longer stay silent on this issue or wait for it to magically disappear. Driven by the clubs, positive conversations have been held in recent weeks with Lega Serie A, FIGC and international experts on how to tackle and eradicate this issue from the game. We, the undersigned clubs, are united by our desire for serious change and Lega Serie A has stated its intention to lead the way by delivering a comprehensive and robust Serie A anti-racism policy, stricter new laws and regulations and a plan for educating those within the game about the scourge of racism. We don’t have any more time to waste. We must now act with speed, with purpose and with unity and we call on you, the fans, to support us in this vitally important endeavour.

Yours sincerely,

Atalanta, Bologna, Brescia, Cagliari, Fiorentina, Genoa, Hellas Verona, Inter Milan, Juventus, Lazio, Lecce, AC Milan, Napoli, Parma, AS Roma, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, SPAL, Torino, Udinese”

AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso is set to leave as manager of AC Milan after a meeting with the club’s chief executive Ivan Gazidis on Monday.

Gattuso, took over at the San Siro in November 2017 and guided his former club to sixth place, but the Italian could only go one position better this season. Under contract until 2021, it was decided in Monday’s meeting with Gazidis, that Gattuso would move on from Milan.

Milan narrowly missed out on Champions League football for the sixth successive season, with Atalanta and city rivals Inter pipping them by a point.

Failure to secure Champions League football is also expected to spell the end for Milan’s sporting director Leonardo, who will likely resign from his post.
