Legislative Council of Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has denied allegations that impeachment of the Chairman, Julius Oloro, was politically motivated.

They, however, described the allegation as laughable and unfortunate.

InsideOjodu recalls that Oloro had said the impeachment notice served on him by the councillors was politically-motivated.

But the councillors described the chairman’s response as ‘laughable, unfortunate and begging the issue’.

Council Leader Wasiu Seidu, and five others (Deputy Leader Olatunji Kogbodoku; Majority Leader Olumide Akinade; Chief Whip Gbenga Opebi; Deputy Majority Leader Iyanda Kazeem and Deputy Chief Whip Jemilat Badiru), said Oloro resorted to blackmail by claiming that the action was ‘politically motivated’.

“The chairman only responded to one of the many allegations in our notice, that of the properties acquired illegally. He, however, failed to react to our demand for details of what the funds which accrued to the LCDA since 2017 were spent on.

“We reiterate that the infrastructure development of the council area is not commensurate with funds received since 2017.

“We condemn Oloro’s insinuations that our action was politically-motivated. We stand by the allegations and are ready to provide proof when the need arises if he prefers we go that route again,” Seidu said.

The Chairman of Ojodu Local Council Development Area, Julius Oloro, has described the impeachment notice served on him by the legislators as “politically-motivated.”

Oloro, who spoke at a briefing on Thursday said  the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has waded into the crisis.

This, he said, was to ensure harmonious relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms.

The council boss denied  ownership of various houses in Ekiti and Lagos states linked to him.

“If I embezzled all the funds in the council for the next ten years, I cannot build such edifices. How much is the allocation we get and the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)? There was no iota of truth in the ownership of houses linked to me. I had even gone to court to swear to an affidavit dissociating myself from the ownership of the structures,” he said.

Oloro, who described the impeachment notice as political, assured the residents that the issue would soon be resolved amicably.

He explained that his focus after assuming the office was implementing policies and programmes that would be of benefit to residents of the council.

According to him, some people were not pleased by his intimidating achievements since given the mandate to lead the council.

“I have a good relationship with the councillors. All issues are being resolved by the party leaders. Though, we have appeared before the Lagos state House of Assembly to state my side of the story. We can have a disagreement on how we run things in the council and the party has provided an avenue to resolve it. The houses issue was misinformation that was mismanaged. It was politically motivated to malign me,” he said.

Oloro, however, congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, and the leadership in the state for the victory the party recorded during the just concluded bye-elections in the state, saying the victory was made possible due to years of successes recorded by the party.

He noted that the projects embarked upon by his administration were people-oriented.

“Some of the projects were: construction of a new secretariat, construction of Erinosho Street road Aguda, Ogba, Odusami Street road in Ogba axis, and Construction of Abibatu Mogaji Ultra-Modern shopping complex (Formerly known as Ogba Retail Market) in Ogba; an upshot of effective Public-private partnership.

“Also, renovation and commissioning of a block of six classrooms at Ojodu Primary School III, renovation of the first phase of the offices of the councillors, leader and legislative chamber, and rehabilitation of blocks of six classrooms at Oke-Ira primary school, Oke-Ira,” he said.

Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos state has distributed food items to 2,500 households.

The Council Chairman, Julius Oloro said the gesture was aimed at complementing the efforts of the Lagos State governor to ease the effects of the lockdown.

The Chairman noted that the lockdown has caused the people of his council to stay at home, leaving them with nothing to fall back on.

“The Coronavirus pandemic has forced our people to stay at home and they have nothing to fall back on – no job, everything is lockdown. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu rolled out feeding centres to lessen the burden on the people.

“On our own part, we are distributing rice, beans and garri to support the state government. For the past two weeks, we have been doing that and this is another phase to bring succour to our people,” he said.

Oloro said the food items would be handed over to the community leaders to distribute to beneficiary whose name has been submitted, adding that he will also see to it that the food items are shared evenly

“They have submitted names of those to benefit from the gesture. I will go around monitoring some of the distribution and will call others on the list to ensure that the foodstuffs were not diverted,” he said.

Commenting on COVID-19, the Chairman told the residents that the virus was real and had taken thousands of lives, therefore he urged them to take precautionary measures given by medical experts seriously.

He said, “We can see that this COVID-19 does not know whether you are poor or you are rich; it chooses who to take and who not to take and how does it choose who to take, we don’t know.

But people that are ignorant and not doing what they ought to do are at high risk. If you are told to stay at home, stay at home; if you are told to wash your hands, wash your hands, and use sanitizer.

When you violate all those procedures, you are at risk of contracting the virus.”

The wife of the Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has urged the residents of the Ojodu Local Council Development Area to adopt a healthy lifestyle.

The Governor’s wife, while speaking at the programme tagged, “Free Medical Mission on Cardiovascular Health in Adults and Dental Health Treatment for Children,” also advised them to refrain from “unhealthy choices” such as drug abuse, according to a statement on Wednesday.

The programme was organised by the James Omolaja Odunmbaku Foundation for the residents of Ogba in the Ojodu LCDA.

Sanwo-Olu explained that unhealthy lifestyle choices such as the intake of unwholesome food, lack of regular exercise, smoking and lack of regular medical checkup could increase the chances of cardiovascular diseases in adults.

She said the initiative which saw the screening of residents for heart-related diseases was in line with the recently inaugurated Lagos State Health Insurance.

Speaking on the health insurance scheme, she said it would increase residents’ access to health care services, including primary and selected secondary health care services.

The founder of James Omolaja Odunmbaku Foundation, Cardinal James Odunbaku, explained that the health mission, which is in collaboration with the National Sports Lottery Foundation, was a way of providing free screening for residents and bringing health-related issues to the front burner for urgent attention.

The Chairman of the Ojodu LCDA, Mr Julius Oloro, while commending the state government and the James Omolaja Odunmbaku Foundation for their efforts at reducing the trend, noted that cardiovascular diseases had been the leading cause of death among residents of the state.
