We can now report that Oyo-Ita has been granted bail in the sum of N100 million. Oyo-Ita who was accused of fraud in relation to DTA, estacodes, conference fees and receiving kickbacks on contracts, pleaded not guilty to the charges in court today March 23.

She was arraigned alongside her special assistant, Ubong Effiok; Frontline Ace Global Services Limited; Asanaya Projects Ltd; Garba Umar and his companies, Slopes International Ltd and Gooddeal Investments Ltd, U & U Global Services Ltd belonging to Mr Effiok, and Prince Mega Logistics Ltd.

Justice Taiwo Taiwo granted the former Head of Service bail in the sum of N100 million with two sureties in like sum.

He’s to be remanded in DSS custody alongside his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare as Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu fixed Friday, October 4th for the hearing of their bail application.

Sowore and his co-defendant were arraigned today on seven counts of treasonable felony and other sundry offences instituted against them by the DSS. They pleaded not guilty to the seven counts when read to them.

After the defendants took their pleas, the defence lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), urged the court to allow Sowore to be allowed to continue with the bail earlier granted him by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, on September 24. He pleaded that the second defendant be granted fresh bail, but the judge said since the bail earlier granted Sowore was not predicated on the charges on which he was arraigned on Monday, a fresh bail had to be granted to him.

The Department of State Service, which has been detaining the former presidential candidate since August 3, continues to hold him in custody in violation of the court order granting him bail six days ago.

Sowore was granted bail by Justice Tawio Tawio but despite meeting the bail condition on September 25, Sowore has not been released by the DSS.

His bail condition is that he deposits his passport with the court and that he is produced whenever needed by his lawyer, Femi Falana.

Speaking with Sahara Reporters at the facility of the Department of State Services where he is being held in Abuja, Sowore said “On Tuesday morning, I was asked to dress up by men of the DSS in preparation for my arraignment.
I got dressed and was ready to go to court but was left unattended to for several hours by the DSS with no communication as to the change in plans of the arraignment until evening when visitors came around and told me that I had been granted bail.”

Justice Tawio said that Mr Sowore should be released to his lawyer , Mr . Femi Falana and he should deposit his passport and other travel documents to guarantee his availability for trial.

On the grounds of the expiration of the detention order and the withdrawal of the DSS ’ request for further detention of Sowore, Falana urged the court to order his client’s release.

The judge in his ruling agreed with Falana by ordering the immediate release of Sowore from custody.
