President Muhammadu Buhari claimed he had tried to stop governors and ministers from naming projects after him, but the Governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello disobeyed him.

The President disclosed this in a live broadcast of his visit to Kogi State on Arise TV on Thursday.

Buhari commissioned a new Confluence University of Science and Technology at Osara, Reference Hospital at Okene, and township road networks in Idah, Okene and across the three senatorial districts.

Other projects include Ganaja Flyover, Model Science Secondary School, Muhammadu Buhari Square and Civic Centre in Lokoja.

“I thank the Governor and the people of Kogi state for naming it (Muhammadu Buhari Square and Civic Centre) after me. Here, I have to digress; I attempted to stop governors and ministers from naming projects after me, but the Governor disobeyed me here”, he stated.

The Kogi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has warned against night travelling as it has become unsafe for motorists and commuters in and around the state.

The command said that the warning is necessary especially now that most roads are in a deplorable state and insecurity is on the increase.

The FRSC Sector Commander in Kogi, Mr Solomon Agure, made the assertions in a statement in Lokoja.

Agure said that no good road experience could come out of speeding, overloading, use of phone while driving, use of mechanically deficient vehicles, or failure to use seatbelt and safety crash helmet.

He said that the corps would be on the lookout to enforce strict compliance to safety laws and orders on the highways.

Agure said arrangements had been made for the commencement of 2021’s Ember Months and Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Campaign in Kogi.

He said that the campaign would be carried out under the theme: “Maintain Safe Speed, Avoid Night Travels And Enjoy Quality Road Experience”.

The FRSC Commander further said there would be high visibility of the corps on the roads across the state toward achieving the goals of the operation from now till the middle of January 2022.

He said that the command was planning to deploy over 800 personnel, 20 patrol vehicles, four ambulances and heavy tow trucks for control of traffic.

“It aims at ensuring route lining, clear obstruction and respond to distress calls for all to have maximum road use experience during and after the period,” he said.

The lockdown imposed on Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of the state over suspected cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19), has been lifted by the Kogi state government.

Governor Yahaya Bello who made the announcement at the Government House in Lokoja on Friday, June 5, said the decision of lifting the lockdown in the local government area was reached after samples which were tested came back negative.

The Governor who insisted that Kogi state still remains a COVID-19-free state urged residents of the state to observe protocols of the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to curb the spread of the disease.

This is coming days after the NCDC announced that two Coronavirus cases were confirmed in the state. Dino Melaye also confirmed this by revealing that he knows one of the patients.
