The Lagos state has recorded another four new deaths from the coronavirus complication, bringing the total death of COVID-19 in the state to 181.

This was confirmed by the state’s Health Commissioner, Prof Akin Abayomi, in a series of Twitter posts, while giving an update on the COVID-19 cases in Lagos state.

The Tweet reads: “123 new COVID-19 infections were confirmed in Lagos on Monday out of a total 602 COVID-19 tests conducted.

“The new cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in Lagos to 11,387. The total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in Lagos now stands at 44,580.

“1,729 of the confirmed cases have since been discharged from COVID-19 Care Centres following full recovery.

“6, 866 of the confirmed cases monitored in communities by COVID-19 Lagos response team have either fully recovered or positively responding to treatments.

“354 of the cases are currently under isolation in public and private care centres.

“Additional 4 COVID-19 related deaths were recorded in Lagos bringing total COVID-19 related deaths in Lagos to 181.

“2,257 active cases in communities are yet to turn up for admission in care centres.

InsideOjodu reported that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed 460 new cases in the country, including 15 deaths recorded in Nigeria on Wednesday.

The 460 new cases were reported from 21 states including, Lagos which is the epicentre of the pandemic.

Health experts have revealed that the coronavirus pandemic infection affects the kidney and the blood.

Lagos State Health Commissioner, Prof Akin Abayomi, who spoke in a programme on Arise News on Wednesday,  warned that obese, diabetic, and hypertensive persons should be “very careful” as their condition pose a likely risk of being infected with the lethal virus.

According to him, “There are new discoveries about the COVID-19 virus. For instance, it is not a straightforward respiratory problem. We have found out that it impacts the blood, the kidneys.

“The common denominator are diabetes, hypertension, and underlying immunological problems. Obesity is also a possible risk factor. We watch such people closely. If you fall into any of these categories, you have to be very careful.”
