According to Channels Tv, the National Coordinator of the PTF, Sani Aliyu, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Abuja.

“I want to start briefly by talking about the Madagascar cure. As directed by the President, I want to state that any medication coming into the country whether it is herbal cure or concoction or normal drug. It has to be subjected to the normal regulatory process.

“The Madagascar cure will be subjected to the normal process we expect within the legal frameworks and guidelines that we have. More importantly, not only to establish its efficacy but for it to be legally registered.

“So this drug would go through the normal regulatory process which can be stringent before it can be administered in the country,” Aliyu said.

InsideOjodu recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari had earlier ordered the PTF to get samples of the COVID Organics to Nigeria for clinical tests and use.

Health Minister, Mr Osagie Ehanire revealed this on Monday, while he was answering the question concerning the cure from Madagascar at the Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19, Channels Tv reports.

According to Ehanire, “Concerning the question on the cure from Madagascar, this has been making the news and we have the promise of being able to get a sample of the herb/botanical product for analysis and also probably use that opportunity to speak with the health authorities particularly the scientific community on how they use it.

“We will also give that to the research community with us here (in Nigeria) to examine and do what they can do with it.

“We will like to compare the sample with the strain here in our country whether they are identical or similar and see what properties it has. Things like that are normally subjected to analysis to find out how it works.”

Whiling expressing that all countries are interested in finding a cure to the deadly COVID-19 and Nigeria is also looking at all options, the Minister said that before the Madagascar cure can be used in Nigeria, it will be examined, “to make sure they are safe and they work.”
