A message in a bottle was found in France last month nearly a decade after it was thrown into the ocean by a 9-year-old in Massachusetts, according to a report.

Max Vredenburgh, now a 19-year-old college student at Suffolk University, put a letter in a glass wine bottle and threw it into the ocean from Rockport, a fishing town north of Boston, in August 2010, The Guardian reported.

On Friday, Vredenburgh’s father texted him that a person named “G. Dubois” found Vredenburgh’s bottle on a beach in southern France in early October.

“On August 21, 2010, I threw a message in a bottle into the ocean from a beach in Rockport, MA,” wrote Vredenburgh on Twitter. “On October 10, 2019 that letter was found on the beach in France. I am mind blown. 9 years.”

The tweet showed Vredenburgh’s original letter and a response from Dubois that included a map of where the bottle was found.

Whoever said that opportunities never comes twice?

A Massachusetts man won his second $1 million lottery this week – just 18 months after drawing a lucky ticket for the first time.

Rolf Rhodes, a resident of Mendon, won his latest prize from a “$4,000,000 Instant Jackpot” scratch-off game purchased at a local gas station on Wednesday.

According to the Massachusetts State Lottery, Rhodes has already collected the first of 20 annual payments of $50,000 – his estimated earnings before taxes.

Rhodes won his first $1 million prize on May 22, 2018, after buying a “Hit $1,000” instant game from a convenience store in Milford, Mass.

Hours after announcing a whopping $25.3 million fundraising haul over the past three months, Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders launched the first television commercial of his 2020 White House campaign.

The Sanders presidential campaign said Tuesday it will spend $1.3 million to run the ads starting Thursday in Iowa, the state that kicks off the primary and caucus nominating calendar.

The 60- and 30-second TV spots – titled “Fights for Us” — highlight the progressive Vermont senator’s decades calling for economic transformation and an end to income inequality.

“Bernie Sanders. Fighting to raise wages for American workers, leading the fight to guarantee health care for all, standing up for civil rights, seniors, veterans and our children’s future,” says the narrator.

The Sanders campaign noted that the ads were produced entirely in-house and that they would run for at least two weeks

News of Sanders’ cash haul comes as the populist senator has faded in many recent national and crucial early-voting state polls to third place. He appears to be lagging former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Warren is the other progressive standard-bearer in the 2020 Democratic nomination race.

Warren announced a week ago that she’ll spend at least $10 million to start running digital and TV ads over the next couple of months in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina, the first four states to vote in the primaries and caucuses.

A woman from Massachusetts was apprehended on Friday afternoon after driving her vehicle into a reservoir in Rhode Island with her three young children inside, according to police.

The Portsmouth Police Department reported in a news release posted to Facebook that the agency responded to the reservoir around 3 p.m. for a report of a vehicle submerged in the water.

When authorities came to the scene they discovered the driver, 30-year-old Amanda Nappi of Milford, Mass., was able to get access to the embankment of the reservoir and then intentionally drove into the water.

Nappi’s three young children were also in the vehicle as she drove into the waterway, according to police.

“At that time, all the occupants were taken to a local hospital as a precaution,” police said. All four were not seriously injured in the incident.

The reservoir, which provides drinking water to area residents, is located just north of Newport.

Nappi’s children were later turned over to the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families.

After her release from the hospital, the 30-year-old was arrested on three counts of cruelty to or neglect of a child. Nappi, who failed to post bond, is behind held at the  Women’s Adult Correctional Institution in Cranston, R.I.

Police said she’s expected back in court at a later time.
