The couple said they “stand with the people of Ukraine” and they condemned Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the sovereign nation.

The statement reads: “Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex and all of us at Archewell stand with the people of Ukraine against this breach of international and humanitarian law and encourage the global community and its leaders to do the same.”

The Duchess of Sussex sued Associated Newspapers Limited – the publisher of The Mail On Sunday and MailOnline – over five articles that reproduced parts of a “personal and private” letter to her father Thomas Markle Sr., 77, in August 2018

The newspaper today, Dec. 2, lost its appeal against a summary judgement which ruled the paper breached Meghan’s privacy by publishing a letter she had written to her estranged dad Thomas Markle

The duchess won her case earlier this year when a High Court judge ruled in her favour without a full trial. But the publisher brought an appeal and, at a three-day hearing in November, argued the case should go to a trial on Meghan’s claims against the publisher – including breach of privacy and copyright.

Three senior judges handed down their decision on that appeal at 10am today, Dec. 2, in which the appeal was dismissed

Reacting to the court’s decision, Meghan said: “This is a victory not just for me, but for anyone who has ever felt scared to stand up for what’s right.”

Her statement continued: “From day one, I have treated this lawsuit as an important measure of right versus wrong

“The defendant has treated it as a game with no rules.

“The longer they dragged it out, the more they could twist facts and manipulate the public (even during the appeal itself), making a straightforward case extraordinarily convoluted in order to generate more headlines and sell more newspapers – a model that rewards chaos above truth.

“In the nearly three years since this began, I have been patient in the face of deception, intimidation and calculated attacks.”

The statement added: “The courts have held the defendant to account and my hope is that we all begin to do the same

“Because as far removed as it may seem from your personal life, it’s not. Tomorrow it could be you.

“These harmful practices don’t happen once in a blue moon – they are a daily fail that divide us and we all deserve better.”

Giving a summary of the Court of Appeal’s decision to dismiss, Sir Geoffrey Vos said: “The Court of Appeal upheld the judge’s decision that the duchess had a reasonable expectation of privacy in the contents of the letter.

“Those contents were personal, private and not matters of legitimate public interest.The articles in the Mail on Sunday interfered with the duchess’ reasonable expectation of privacy and were not a justified or proportionate means of correcting inaccuracies about the letter.”

Talking to Richard Madeley and Susanna Reid about Meghan, Harry and their two children on Good Morning Britain, Thomas admitted he had considered taking legal action against his daughter.

Susanna was interviewing Thomas when she said: “You have two new grandchildren, who you must be afraid you won’t meet.”

Thomas said that he was very concerned about that. He added: “I’d love to see my grandchildren.”

He then told Susanna that people in California have told him to sue his daughter and her husband over the fact that he is being prevented from seeing his grandkids.

He said: “People have suggested in California that I sue, to see my grandkids, and I think if I did that, I’d be a hypocrite, I’d be doing the same thing that Meghan and Harry are doing. I don’t want to include my grandchildren in this kind of situation, I want to see my grandchildren with friendly parents and friendship all around.”

Susanna then questioned him on the legal action he mentioned, asking him if he had grounds to do so.

Thomas said that he didn’t want to take legal action on his daughter and her husband, explaining that he didn’t want his grandchildren to be “pawns in a game.”

After announcing their plans to step down from their roles as senior members of the royal family, the couple began staying at a waterfront home in Vancouver Island. However, they relocated to California after Canada announced it would be restricting its borders due to COVID-19.

When Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their 1-year-old son, Archie, relocated to the US, they moved into Tyler Perry’s eight-bedroom, 12-bathroom Tuscan-style villa. The villa sits on 22 acres on the top of a hill in the ultra-exclusive Beverly Ridge Estates guard-gated community, offering sweeping views of the city from the backyard.

A source told DailyMail.com “Meghan and Harry have been extremely cautious to keep their base in LA under wraps. Their team helped them choose the location for their transition to Los Angeles wisely. Beverly Ridge has its own guarded gate and Tyler’s property has a gate of its own which is watched by their security team. Beverly Ridge is an excellent place to keep out of view. The neighbours are mostly old money and mega-rich business types rather than show business gossips. During their talk over lunch, she told him that he and Meghan will be welcomed back if they ever decide to rejoin the royals.

The Queen agreed to meet Prince Harry upon his request and on Sunday, March 1, the Duke of Sussex discretely strolled from his Frogmore Cottage home in Windsor Home Park to the castle, where he and the Queen shared a light lunch and tea as they discussed his future.

A royal source said: “The Queen had a lot to talk to Harry about and this was the ideal time for them to both say their piece. When Harry and Meghan announced they wanted to quit it all happened very quickly and it was very stressful for all concerned. Sunday was the first time the Queen has had the chance to talk to Harry on his own and really find out what his plans are. It was a much more relaxed environment and they were both able to speak their mind. It’s fair to say she is very upset about him and Meghan leaving and she would love to see more of Archie, as would Prince Charles and the rest of the family. But she accepts at the moment that his mind is made up and he intends to live in North America. However she also wanted to make it clear that the arrangement can only work if they do not exploit their royal status and try to ‘cash in’ — that’s why she wouldn’t let them use the word ‘royal’ for their foundation. The Queen is protecting the institution and she is also aware of the cost of security. That is something that still needs to be resolved. But Harry is also a much-loved grandson who she has always doted on. She made it very clear to him that he and Meghan are always able to come back if they change their minds and she will welcome them with open arms. Hopefully the chat cleared the air and the way forward is looking more positive. But she wanted to make certain Harry knew there were limits and the whole set-up is subject to a review after 12 months.”

On Saturday just hours after announcing they would stop using the word ‘royal’ in their branding after this year’s spring, Harry and Meghan put a new statement on their own website
saying that while neither the government nor the Queen herself own the word ‘royal’ internationally, they would stop using the title.

The statement read:
‘While there is not any jurisdiction by The Monarchy or Cabinet Office over the use of the word “Royal” overseas, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not intend to use “Sussex Royal” or any iteration of the word “Royal” in any territory (either within the UK or otherwise) when the transition occurs Spring 2020.’
They also complained that the palace is treating them differently to other family members and argued that their £3million – £6million worth of security cost to protect them and their son’ is necessary when they relocate to Canada.
The statement comes after the Queen employed top lawyers to stop the Duke and Duchesss from using the ‘Sussex Royal’ in merchandize or businesses and would affect Harry and Meghan as they have spent tens of thousands of pounds building the Sussex Royal-branded website and creating Sussex Royal themed social media page.

The creation of this non-profit entity will be in addition to their cause driven work that they remain deeply committed to. While The Duke and Duchess are focused on plans to establish a new non-profit organisation, given the specific UK government rules surrounding use of the word ‘Royal’, it has been therefore agreed that their non-profit organisation will not utilise the name ‘Sussex Royal’ or any other iteration of ‘Royal.’

Following lengthy and complex talks, the Queen and senior officials are believed to have agreed it is no longer tenable for the couple to keep the word “royal” in their “branding” because “they simply cannot sell themselves as royals”.

Harry and Meghan spent tens of thousands of pounds on a new Sussex Royal website to complement their Sussex Royal Instagram account. They also sought to register Sussex Royal as a global trademark for a range of items and activities, including clothing, stationery, books and teaching materials. In addition, they have taken steps to set up a new charitable organisation: Sussex Royal, The Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Though the details are still being thrashed out, it is understood the couple have accepted that, as part of their new working arrangements, they will not be able to use the Sussex Royal name as they had hoped.

A royal source said “The Duchess is said to be frustrated that she was forced to stay out of politics after getting engaged to Harry, she has strong political opinions and will now take advantage of the greater freedom she has to express them publicly.”

After becoming a Royal, Meghan, an American citizen, retained her American citizenship, and in 2018 reportedly told a close associate that her ultimate ambition was to be president of the U.S.

Shortly after they announced the news, Meghan’s estranged father spoke out, telling Us Weekly: “I’ll just simply say I’m disappointed.”

Thomas Markle and her daughter have been estranged for so many years. He has not had contact with her even before her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.
