Only a few hours into 2020 and Missouri’s second largest city recorded four homicides in multiple shootings across St. Louis.

The St. Louis Police Department told KMOV the incidents – in which a total of eight people were shot – began rolling in shortly after midnight, when a teenager was shot in the thigh in a neighborhood on the city’s northwest side.

The teenager was rushed to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

Not even a half-hour after the first incident was reported, three people were found fatally shot in an intersection in the city’s Benton Park neighborhood. A fourth victim was discovered shot in the leg at the location just before 12:30 a.m.

Officials told FOX2 the victims have not been identified and no arrests have been made in connection with those shootings.

A Missouri woman who kept her husband’s body inside a freezer in her bedroom for nearly a year had denied the terminally ill man medical treatment after becoming afraid that a doctor would take his brain for research, authorities said.

Barbara Watters, 67, told police her husband, Paul Barton, suffered from Lou Gehrig’s disease – a progressive nervous system disease also known as ALS, police Capt. Nick Jimenez said.

“She kept making mention of Paul’s body being used for research,” a police report said. “She said they did not want his body to be taken apart. Barbara said due to them refusing to consent to research, they were having a hard time finding a doctor to help them.”

Police and medical professionals had made several attempts to check on Barton before his death, but Watters wouldn’t allow them inside her home.

During one visit, she wheeled Barton to the door so police could see him, according to the report. An officer said that Barton looked “frail and sickly” but appeared to be breathing on his own and had no major bruising to suggest an assault.

“Watters stated Barton was barely able to walk, could not speak, and could only answer yes and no questions with head nods,” the report said.

During a subsequent visit, Barton said he wasn’t interested in seeking treatment at a Kansas hospital but wanted to see a doctor. Watters also said she would like Barton to see a doctor but was concerned.

Police discovered Barton’s body earlier this month after receiving a tip while investigating an unrelated arson case near Watters’ home.

An unnamed witness, whose relationship to the couple hasn’t been released, told police Barton died on Dec. 30, 2018, and had been kept in the freezer ever since, according to an affidavit. An autopsy later concluded there were no signs of foul play, police said.

Watters, who has unspecified “mental disorders,” now faces up to four years in prison on a charge of abandonment of a corpse, according to records obtained by The Associated Press. She was freed Thursday on house arrest.

Brandon West, a neighbor, told the AP that the couple mainly kept to themselves and Watters had always “seemed normal” when he spoke to her.

Three missing children from Missouri have been found in Texas with their mother, two years after they were allegedly abducted.

U.S. Marshals on Thursday located Shawn Rodriguez, now 42, at a home in Arlington with her three children, Daniel, David and Ariana Olivera after a lengthy investigation, according to reports.

The children were all under the age of 8 when they and Rodriguez left Saline County, Mo., in August 2017 and disappeared, KCTV News reported. Rodriguez was reportedly headed for California at the time.

Earlier this year, the children’s father was granted full custody, and local authorities officially listed the children as missing in July, the station reported. In August, a warrant for Rodriguez’s arrest for parental kidnapping was issued in Saline County.

That same month, local authorities, along with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and the United States Marshals Service in the Western District of Missouri, launched an investigation into where the children were, KSHB-TV reported.

Investigators said they were able to narrow down their search for the missing siblings by October, believing Rodriguez was hiding out in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.

A Missouri man has been indicted for a cold case murder he was questioned about 31 years ago after it happened, according to reports.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office said Friday in a news release the indictment charges Lawrence Timmons, 65, of Pierce City, with the murder of 31-year-old Cynthia Smith in 1988.

Shortly after Smith’s body was found in a cemetery, Timmons was questioned in connection with the death, but no charges were filed, KYTV reported Saturday.

The station reported that the popular reality TV crime show “Cold Justice” helped investigators crack the case.

In the news release, the sheriff’s office said only that the case was reopened after investigators were contacted by a “private investigation firm who wished to assist with new information that they had received.”

“After several months of ongoing investigations, information was turned over to the Lawrence County prosecutor, who presented the information to a grand jury,” the sheriff’s office said. “After receiving the information, the grand jury issued the indictment on Timmons.”

The Rochester Democrat Chronicle reported Saturday that according to Missouri investigators, Oklahoma police have reopened investigations into two homicides: the 1994 murder of his first wife and the 1998 drowning death of an 11-year-old girl.

“We call him an opportunist,” Lawrence County Sgt. Melissa Phillips told the paper. “He does not target on sex or age. He has little boys in his past. He has little girls in his past. He has women in his past.”

“Foul play” was said to have been involved in the demise of a 21-year-old female University of Mississippi student found dead near a lake this weekend, officials said.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department said that the body of Alexandria “Ally” Kostial was found Saturday morning in Harmontown, located about 20 miles from the Ole Miss campus in Oxford, Miss.

Sheriff’s officials told FOX13 Memphis “foul play” was apparent, but no cause of death was immediately released.

Neighbors in the area told WMC-TV that the remote neighborhood was swarmed by first responders on Saturday morning.

“I was sitting on the couch and saw the ambulance go by and was curious and went outside and then the next thing I know the coroner came by and two unmarked vehicles,” Michelle Bramlett told the television station.

Deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab are “actively working” the case, in addition to the University of Mississippi Police Department and the Oxford Police Department, FOX13 reported.

Officials from the sheriff’s office said they are not releasing any additional information at this time.

Kostial was from St. Louis, Missouri and was a 2016 graduate of Lindbergh High School, FOX2 reported.

The 21-year-old was working toward a bachelor’s degree in marketing in the School of Business Administration at the University of Mississippi.

University of Mississippi Interim Chancellor Larry Sparks said in a statement to FOX13 the school was “truly saddened” by her death.

“Ally was a valued member of our campus community,” Sparks said. “We extend our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and classmates and stand ready to support them during this time. We appreciate the work of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department and Coroner as they conduct their investigation.”
